I-tunes Match, what do you think?

I-tunes match came out a day or two ago. YOu can upload up to 25k songs to the web for a $24.99 a year. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and what your impressions are.

I purchased it last night. It takes a long time for the first match from your iTunes account, for me about 12 hours. Still waiting to see how many songs were matched and how many were uploaded. It should be done today and then i'll post my impressions.

What's the point? Why would I want to upload my music to them and pay them to have it on the web?

Its bizarre. I guess when the phones that are being sold are limited in the amount of memory they can hold (no expandable SD) it makes sense. For everyone else just buy a bigger memory card.

Or stream it from your own server for free along with movies, documents, FTP, security cameras, torrent, and etc.

The movement is everything off the handset and in the Cloud - You will not download a song, it will stream

So, I pay for the song (the right to listen), then I pay for the storage of said song, then I pay data rates to listen to said song. So I pay three times for what I used to pay once for.

Yea, this cloud computing is a good deal.

Man, CD's Cassettes and Vinyl are looking better and better, as is my own MP3 player.

Huh? - Ya get 5GB of free storage from iCloud and why store it when you are streaming it? - You tag it as something you like and THEY store if for you

As for Data Rates, that is a Cell Company thing and they are practically giving them away now with bundled plans

So I can only listen to music when I'm online? If that's the case I'll stick to Pandora.

Hahahaha just had to upgrade the MacBooks hdd due to too much music. Got a 500 gig in there now, with an additional 500 gig drive on router for network storage

The 5GB isn't for your music for the iTunes Match.

"Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 20 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are, your music is already in iCloud. And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes has to upload only what it can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it to any of your devices. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality."

http://www.apple.com/itunes/whats-new/

Most of my music is ripped 128kbps, so if my HDD crashes, I can re-download all my music at a higher rate (256-Kbps). It's not a bad back up for my music, and I won't need a computer on when I play music through my Apple TV.

What I want to do is combine mine and my wife's music, delete all the duplicates and put them on the Mac Mini, so this way if we do this, it's $25 and not $50 for 2. But not sure if we can sync to separate Macbooks with Mail/Calenders/and contacts, and music from the Mini.
