Coby-Kyros Tablet?

I need your .02 on this tablet. Looking to get my kids one each for xmas. Looks like it runs on Android 2.2 out of the box,8" screen, wifi, 4gb. For what it is, good enough for them to go online and fuck off with it. Good for the $$ or stay away? Any other suggestions in this price range are welcomed. Thanks guys.

Never heard of them before.

Which one? There seems to be a bunch:

http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=pcat&pcat_id=3001

Note that there seems to be both Resistive (you must PUSH to "touch") and Capacitative screens (just touch).

Honestly, I would say that you're better off getting a single tablet of better quality, instead of buying two that are sub-par at best.

There's a lot of the mainstream "first gen" tablets on sale these days, such as the Asus Transformer, Motorola Xoom, and Samsung Galaxy Tab (not to be confused with the Samsung Tab). Look for refurbed as well or folks ditching their first gen for the new next gen tablets.

Prowl around here for example, for WTF ads:

It makes sense to spend double and get one but then I'll be hearing them fight like little girls hence the reason to get them their own thats decent.

First big negative against it is that it's a resistive screen. You'll notice the difference. Chances are tech savvy kids will definitely notice the difference.

I'm against cutting corners when it comes to certain tech items, tablets being one of them. But if you had to go with one of their line, don't cut a corner with the screen. These two Coby's are the equivalent Capacitive options:

I'm about to jump into a meeting - spend some time Googling reviews for these and see what the feedback is like.

Here's a Deal Alert that I ran across earlier this morning, for a decent (non-dual core) tablet.

I don't agree (yet). My take is that it's too soon to tell on these tablets, as they were only just announced. The manufacturer is a relative unknown, there have not been any solid reviews by reputable sources, and we don't even know when it will hit the market.

From what I have read, they are pretty big in China, just starting to get over here. For a kid? These are perfect.

Thanks for contributing Bek, appreciate it. Ebay had the HP Touchpads at $99 yesterday but it lasted about 20 minutes and I missed it. I'm still looking.
