window 7 install

trying to install win 7 on an older computer I know thats usually useless to do.

Got it loaded, and when it says starting windows for the first time, it goes to the "shut down" screen

Then, it reboots and goes black(you can't press F8) then reboots again in a loop.

put disc in and click repair, it says FAT error can't fix. Used windows 7 format and partition etc.....

this is on an older hp mediacenter computer. pentium D chip. 32 and 64 win 7 is the same. sata hard drive.

iz too tired to play with it. I might put win xp on it like it had orignally. To lazy to disconnect the card readers cuz theres so much addons with the media case. HP website looks lacking for drivers, even for XP.

Word of caution with USB and Windows 7, older devices will not work. So once you get it running get a VM running so you can actually interact with older USB devices.

Older PC though, you are way better off with XP. 7 will run like crap in old hardware. You are def trying to have a plane take off from a treadmill here.

Most likely the hard drive is bad or going bad. Blocks where system files are stored have been corrupted and Windows cannot successfully boot. When you run the restore process it attempts to recopy over the system files but either the same files or different files will (seemingly) go bad at random.

Another possibility is the source data is bad; if it's a brand new W7 DVD then odds are slim that it's the media's fault. But the optical drive could be going bad and thus the data is getting corrupted during the installation as well. Hell, even the memory could be flaking out so that the data is being corrupted in transit.

Update your bios.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

What's the USB device? Most likely it'll work just fine in Linux. Oh, and my vote goes to http://www.linuxmint.com

installed windows xp which is working so far.

did a real format which took 3 hours. stupid windows 7 does those quick formats that takes 10 seconds.

Now i just have to find a few drivers for the puter.

my main puter was acting up with the blue screen. I turned the cpu cache off, and hopefully it starts working again.

It appears the full format during the XP install addressed your issues, so that tells me that HDD is on it's way out the door. The full format only masks the root issue, so I personally wouldn't trust any important data on that computer. But if it's just for using with the USB device then you'll probably be fine, until the OS refuses to load again some day.

The real question is will the plane take off and if so, did Ron Paul help?

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"
