Internet when on the road?

Debating if I should buy/turn on 3G access for my iPad or if I should subscribe to a plan like AT&T or Boingo.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Greg

I find that most places will have either free WiFi, or that I can wait for whatever I need. Hotels always have them, a lot of coffee shops do. It is a convenience to have it and you pay for it, but I think in the end a waste of money since more and more places have free WiFi available. Remember that most plans have caps, or slow you down, etc.

Depends on what you are doing. I don't use my mobile devices for CC purchases or business stuff.

That said, most placed that do handle that kind of transaction will have a secure link to your device.

I advocate the use of a Paypal account connected to a bank account for most of your online purchases.

Tethering the iPad to the iPhone costs about the same as the data plan on the iPad alone. (Unless you jailbreak)

I like the month to month data plan on the iPad. Turn it on when you need it.....cancel when you don't.

For and extra $20 my Sprint Evo acts as a 4G hotspot with no limit on data. By my math it is faster, cheaper and allows more data than turning on 3G with an Ipad. I just need to watch battery life or have it plugged into a charger.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.
