Help with my freezing pc

Hey guys need some help or advice. My pc freezes pretty often, usually when trying to watch youtube vids or.......midget porn

Anyways, sometimes when it freezes, after 20-30 seconds, it recovers. Followed by a message, "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered successfully".

Other times it doesnt recover, forcing a cp restart. I checked for disply driver updates and it's up to date.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what my problem could be and how to fix it.

Thanks

Do you have a higher-end video card in your system, or are you just using the on-board video controller on your motherboard?

If you're using a higher-end card, which often have their own fans/heatsinks, I am betting that you have a heat issue, probably due to a fuckton of dust inside. Have you ever opened up your box and cleaned it out?

This is good advice, but if you aren't going to buy a new computer if recommend reformatting your hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Win 7.

You don't need to buy a Mac, you don't need to do a reload. Just run windows update and install all of the updates. Win 7 Service Pack 1 (other one of the other updates) should fix this.

In general, keep up with your windows updates. This solves many of the issues that give windows a bad rep.

On a side note, when a Mac can support as much third party software as Windows or there is as much third party software available for a Mac as there is for Windows, we'll see how stable that Mac OS really is.

You missed it. It's not about the hardware, it's about the software.

I was going to let it go, but lol

MACs run processors, vc, ram, and hdd by the same manufacturers as Windows PCs. It's all the same hardware. So by your assessment, what you are saying is that Windows is a faster more stable OS.

your machine isn't that old. Do you have premium support by Dell? If so call them.

As for the video card being the problem it is likely, however in my experience an over heating video card won't dump a driver it will dump the whole OS (blue screen)

I have seen the exact same issue you have but it was specific to nVidia video cards and you have an ATI video card. I would suggest updating your video drivers and your computers BIOS firmware. Please note neither of these would be included in windows update.

Here are the links for the Studio XPS 7100 (the computer you said you have)

BIOS firmware - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/...ductCode=False

Do a system restore to a date prior to when you started having problems.

Alright If this was me i would do the following

1. Run Disk Cleanup with a program. filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

2. Run a registery scan with a program like snapfiles.com/downloads/eusingregistry/dleusingregistry.html

3. Run a antispyware program to check for malware
superantispyware.com/downloadfile.htmlproductid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

4. Check to see if your hardware is overheating with this program
cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.19-setup.exe

5. If all this checks out and does not solve your performance issues I would then download the correct drivers for your videocard from the vendor of your card.

6. After you have dl the drivers setup I would use this program to remove your old videocard drivers, This will complete the removal of your videocard drivers and list any other old ones you might still have that could be giving you issues. guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper

7. DO NOT BUY A STUIPED OVERPRICED MAC THAT NOW ARE GETTING VIRUS!!!!

So you want him to load up his pc with all that garbage for what? Easier and free solution is to close out of every program and kill all processes you dont need to still have windows running and do a disk fragment and download microsoft security essentials to scan for any virus's, bloatware. Simple, free, and works flawless.
