help with solidworks 2012

I work almost exclusively with solidworks at work, as of last week it got picky with which models it will open, including native drawn sldprt models.
spent 2+ hours on tech support last week clearing registrys reapplying the license and updating drivers

come to this week, I cant open any of the files I need to, this includes part models and prints. spent alot of time yesterday trying to figure out whats going on with this thing

im fully up to date with all software
tried repairing solidworks a couple times
even reinstalled it leaving the license in place on my machine.

my problem in detail:
when I try to open a file via the file menu or double clicking the file itself it pulls solidworks to the foreground or launches it if its not open, but does nothign else leaving SW at its blank home screen with no document opened. no hour glass no error message it just forgets to open a document

any ideas?

Does your license have an expiration date?

Sounds like a license or environment variable.

I have no idea how this would be relevant, but the part where you say it forgets to open is similar to what Pro/e does when the part is from newer version of the software.

I can't see this being the case as you're on 2012, but maybe it will spur a thought or idea or something.

Can you get a print screen of the task manager to show us the CPU usage? Sometimes the computer just can't handle the software.

System specs, including processor, RAM and vid card would be helpful to diagnose as well.

I'm running '11 on my work computer, so I cannot help you in the fullest detail possible.

Your specs look good enough to run the program well, but I'd suggest taking a close look at the video card, make sure there is no huge dust deposits on/in the fan. These quaddro cards heat up quick if not cooling properly.

Could be an issue with your windows file extensions. Maybe try resetting them by deleting them and re-adding them in your folder options from the tool menu??

Jason,

this sounds like a registry issue.

quick google on your sw and registry gives this. I'd give it a try

read this too, to save the settings before resetting it
