Samsung Galaxy S III

... is FINALLY seeing the light of day, here in the US, on ALL major carriers: Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, & AT&T!

Verizon just announced that pre-orders will start June 6th.

T-Mobile just announced that the S3 will drop on June 21st.

Sprint's starting pre-orders on June 5th & drop June 21st as well.

And I presume AT&T will have their announcement shortly.

Given that Sprint's network has gone to complete and utter fucking hell, I'm seriously considering jumping ship to Verizon and picking up a pair of these.

Seems to be a pretty great phone if you like Android. the 4g will be really fast on verizon.

Just keep in mind that Verizon doesn't offer an unlimited data plan anymore. its now 2Gb for $30. Sometime they have promotions for 4Gb for $30.

Nice device. Will have to order couple for the office.

Sprint is horrendous. Had the service when the first EVO came out. Both were flop!

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.

Yup, am all too aware that if I go to Vzn, they're going to rape the fuck out of me.

But considering that Sprint's 3G in Chicagoland is utter piss, to the point where I rarely ever use data unless I'm on fucking wifi, their "unlimited" plan has become quite useless. And I'm not confident in Sprint's LTE rollout, given the fuckups I keep hearing about behind the scenes.

I moved from a 3GS on AT&T to a Galaxy Nexus to Verizon last December. My only complaint as that although the Nexus is a great device (fast, battery life is not great) and ICS is nice Verizon has done a shit job of pushing out updates. STILL waiting on 4.0.4 OTA (I know I can root but that is besides the point).

But my bill actually went down a couple dollars for the same plan as I had with AT&T expcept for unlimited data became 4GB/month. Honestly I've never gone above 1GB/month the entire time I've owned a smartphone (my PC has it's own Verizon card so I never tether to my phone or use it as a hotspot).

Wasn't there a rumor that one of the carriers is getting a neutered dual-core version instead of the 4 core one due to some compatibly issue with the processor and their LTE network?

I just looked up my sprint account...it's looking like I'm using about 1Gig a month, and that's with light usage due to the crappy network.

I need a cheaper, and yet, more consistent service, otherwise I'll go back to my old Brick phone...

All of the US Galaxy S3's will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual core CPU.

This may not be such a bad thing... the S4's are fast & highly efficient motherfuckers. The Exynos haven't seen extensive side-by-side testing vs the S4. However, the S4 has been benchmarked against the quad core Tegra 3 and performed either on par or exceeded the Tegra 3.

Interesting, my HP touchpad uses that processor. In the touchpad it is highly over-clockable. Believe my T-mobile SGSII uses this same processor too.

Not quite. The Touchpad & SGSII both have an S3.

Additionally, there were numerous interations that all fall under the S4 label.

The one that we want, and will be getting, is the Krait. Biggest advantage is the smaller CPU die, which translates into more efficient power consumption for the end-user.

Sprint EVO 4G owner here. The 3G in non existent. Super frustrating. Do I wait for the fix?

I want the S3 as my next phone but am thinking of VZW.

I use around 1.7gb/month

Depends.

Information from S4GRU.com combined with inside information from my friend, who is working on the Sprint LTE Chicago project, I personally lack confidence that they'll be 100% successful by the end of 2012.

Can you wait? Then knock yourself out... chances are good Sprint will hang onto their Unlimited Plans for the immediate future, meaning you'll probably win out in the end on cost. The question however is, will Sprint's Network Vision upgrade actually be successful both here in Chicago and across the rest of the nation?

On the other hand, Vzn has a solid, stable LTE infrastructure in place all over the nation. They're 10 steps ahead of Sprint in this regards. I'm so frustrated with Sprint's shit data that I am willing to move to a reliable network, so I can actually make use of mobile data once again.

The trade-off will be cost - Vzn's a fuckton more expensive. For me, the trade-off will be worthwhile.

How recently? Are you within the 30 day period to return the SII? Sprint will also be receiving the SGSIII, if you elect to remain on Sprint.

Whether you're pleased with it or not, really depends on your needs and how you use the phone. I'd consider myself a power user and rely heavily on data, so my needs & expectations may differ drastically from yours.

I plan to replace my original Galaxy S with this one. I may wait a little longer this time though, I've been an early adopter i the past. I got the G1 when it first hit and the vibrant at launch, I think I will let the others deal with the launch bugs this time.

I talked to the people at my local Sprint repair center and they said they were expecting these problems through the middle of June. They obviously know there's an issue and if you log a complaint they will pay back some of your costs from the last 3-4 months.

That being said, my Galaxy S is starting to take a shit - slow as hell, even on wifi, freezing multiple times a day, speaker not working on phone calls, dropping calls in my house (with one of the Sprint signal boosters) - and all of this with a hard reset about a month or so ago.

I am eligible for an upgrade in a couple weeks and am now debating on the S3 vs the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5 that's rumored to come out in Sept/Oct. I know the S3 is a much better phone than the 4S, but the iPhone has some of the additional features I want - GPS that works, faster Facebook, iTunes/Cloud connection, Direct TV connection, and Nike+ connection plus I can get it now. I know this is the Android thread, but anyone else debating similar options?

Tried GSM with AT&T and the terrible reception through skyscrapers & such downtown killed it for me. Besides, I want LTE.

While the US & International versions are slightly different (CPU & RAM), I'm still tracking the overseas release to also keep an eye on launch defects and such. Overall, it seems that Samsung planned this well and actually didn't make any major fuckups. This gives me more confidence that the US rollout will be successful as well. After all, when's the last time any phone aside from the iPhone, released on all major carriers on the same damn day, without carrier rebranding? This release is not a typical release.

Still not good enough for me. I'm sick of getting 150k down at BEST over 3G, when I used to get 10 times that.

Kate's been having issues with hers ever since Sprint deployed their long delayed and still fucked Gingerbread implementation. My biggest regret is not biting the bullet, wiping her phone, rooting & installing a custom ROM on that thing. She's thrilled as much as I am, to be moving to the SGSIII.

GPS that works = all indications from the UK & Asia SGSIII users is that the GPS kicks ass. Faster Facebook = browse FB via the browser instead of the app (though last week's release did help a bit). FriendCaster is also a nice FB alternative. iTunes/Cloud = I presume you mean just Apple's cloud? Because there's half a dozen cloud providers now, which offer fantastic sync capabilities.

I've never tested my speeds to see how I'm doing, but I'm usually on 4g or wifi between home and work. Even with both of those it's still pretty slow...

I've found it to be a huge pain in the ass to get to the browser version of facebook and when I finally get to a full version of the page, it keeps switching me back to the mobile site. Mobile seems to work just the same as the app and annoyingly slow.

If there was an iTunes app and a nike+ app that worked on android this would be a pretty easy decision. The next problem is trying to figure out when/if the iPhone5 will be out and if it'll be worth waiting for. Hopefully they make the announcement this week.

Meh, when you prob tried ATT was when ATT's GSM was still new tech to them. Kinda like sweet tomatoes getting into the steak business. Even when they boughtout ATTs towers (when cingular) they did a shitty job of managing them for optimal performance.

T-Mo used to have more terrestrial repeaters in chicago than the other carriers. (not sure what current stats are)

And the band they operated on had better building penetration than ATTws 850.

Sprint went to shit around February, and every time you call they will say tower is out - fuck this. I cant wait for my contract to end (8/6/12), and I'm out to Verizon or ATT, but I hope by that time they will announce sharing data plans.
If I heard correctly, GIII will be all the same for all carriers: same name processor color etc.
of course different antennas for GSM and TDMA.

It's official. My new Sprint business inside sales person is retarded. He couldn't confirm pricing ($249.99 for the 32g), he couldn't confirm my upgrade bonus, and he couldn't confirm the trade in value of me EVO ($65 per sprint.com). All he could do was reserve one for me and assure me "I'll get the best pricing available". When I checked upgrade on my phone I got “As of 4/12/12, you are eligible to save up to $150 off SRP plus any promotional discounts w/ 2-yr Agreement.” When I asked him to confirm I would be at $100 net less the $65 on my old EVO he said I'm at $250 less the EVO. I asked what part about the words "plus any" am I missing and I got BS and was referred off to customer service.

If you guys need to upgrade your cell phone, sams club in Addison (June 15-17)
has a Sam's Event. You can buy phones from TM, ATT and Sprint for a lower price and they will waive your activation and upgrade fee.
