home internet Wifi, need MORE SPEED!..suggestion?

Well, between my home computer tower being Wifi, 2 kids running iPad2's and wifi Mac Laptops and Tiff and I running Ipad4's, wireless printer...my ATT DSL up to 2MBs service plan just isn't cutting it.

what the best bang per buck out there?

You can up your circuit speed but a this point your single access point is the bottleneck if you have that many devices on at once

Right now comcast has a promotion with there internet. Speeds are up to 20mb down for 30 bucks for the first 6 months. After the 6 months it goes up to 55 or 59. Comes out to 62 each bill. I got 3 home computers, laptop, cell phones, ipods, nephews that come over and game online almost every day. Speeds are not an issue for all this data I use. I also stream movies from xfinity a lot and never have a complaint.

In many locations, you can get faster DSL, up to 6Mbps, or Uverse. Comcast's basic Internet is up to 10Mbps.

And for real speed, use a wired ethernet connection, not wireless.

Upgrade to Uverse or move to Comcast.

I have 20/2 cable service in the burbs but am limited to 12/1 U-Verse in our downtown condo. I would imagine you would be able to get better speeds, but I'll take my Comcast connection over DSL any day.

Comcast has good speeds but will rape you on pricing after the promotional 6 months

U-verse is what I have, does depend on area as well which is best

I'm not gonna ask because I don't care. Wireless at its best can provide near wired speeds when were talking about low end consumer speeds and a flawless wireless connection. However most of the time it can't compete. There is a lot less involved with wired getting a fast connection vs wireless getting its connection. It will never be faster to be wireless for pc.

Mid level package from Comcast...I hard wired my TV's, HT Receivers, BlueRay players, Sat boxes, and printers. The only stuff I run wireless is a pair of iPads, a pair of laptops and a pair of cell phones.

I've never had an speed or connectivity issues from any of my devices.

Also, should point out that I ran the above test from a wireless laptop.

Be careful with speed tests of Comcast packages as the numbers will be inflated a bit. The PowerBoost provides for up to double your actual throughput for the first few seconds/Mbs of data transfers.

Actual sustained throughputs are better calculated with ShaperProbe which will report burst and sustainable speeds: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/dif...aperprobe.html
