Which Tablet Should I Get?

So my fiancée's birthday is coming up on the 22nd and I've been thinking about getting her a tablet. This came up when talking about reading some books. She's Chinese and still has problems reading in English with a somewhat limited vocabulary. I showed her the dictionary in Kindle and it got her interested. I bought her an iPhone 5 earlier this year and she likes Apple products. There are some good translation programs available and "her girls" (She's a gymnastic coach) are all Apple nuts. She isn't too technical. Personally, I'm not wild about Apple and think that they are overpriced. I'm also trying to stay within a reasonable budget for what will be mostly a book reader with some games and email. She will do almost everything else on her phone. She seems to like my old Motorola Xoom which still runs great.

Right now I'm looking at a Nexus 7 if I go cheap. I think it's the best bang for the buck out there for a small tablet. If I go upscale I was looking at a Nexus 10 or iPad mini. I'm definitely staying under $500 and would really rather be under $400.

Opinions?

At $600 for 32 gigs it better come with a happy ending and great reviews.

Does she need 32GB? - Walmart has the 16GB for $427 and as an FYI, my old iPad 3 (the Air I think is 5 or 6 now) is over 2 yrs old and never an issue - I don't trust Android and WIN OS so the Apple to me is an investment as I know it will last - Hell, I carry an iPad 2 for work and it is rock solid as well at about 2 yrs old

$427? I show it at $479 at Wallyworld.
I don't know how much she will need. It will probably do, but I'm paranoid about getting any non-expandable smart device that can last for years with only 16 gigs. Add some tunes and pictures and it gets crowded fast. Heck, I have 32 in my S3 and have burned through 1/2. Same with my Xoom and I have very little music or pictures on it. Now that I'm looking, I'm seeing 32 gig available for right around $500. Maybe... I'm seeing the 32 gig Mini for $400. That might be a strong contender.

My Bad - Meant $479 down from $499 - With so much "In the cloud" the need for on tablet storage is different for many - To be honest, I have like 60GB of music in my iTunes and barely even touch it anymore with iTunes Radio and Songza, I rarely play my music - But, that said, my iPad is the 64GB and I don't even have half my music loaded

Like I said, all about what she needs out of it

Nexus 7, it doesn't have an apple logo so it's cheaper AND faster!

We're still in love brother and she's making up for lost years. No help needed there.

Right now I'm still confused, but leaning towards a 10" something. The 7" iPad mini and the Nexus 7 just seem a little small. The current gen Nexus 10 32 has caught my eye. What a great screen! The KitKat update should be available soon too. I can get one for $400 delivered. The 10 16 is $355. If I wait till the new 2013 comes out, it should go even lower, but I'm running out of time. The new Apple is $440 for 16 and 510 for 32 best. That's about $100less than Apple and I do like Google and Samsung products. It's close...
