Data Recovery

anoyone have some cheap suggestions? It got struck in lightening storm and the hard drive spins but that's it. I tried attaching it as a secondary drive on another computer, but it won't even show up. I called a couple recovery companies and they charge between $500 - $1000!!!

its pricey and results aren't garaunteed.

install one of these in your car, and when you hit 88 you'll see some serious shit. then put a better surge protector on it before the lightening.

try attaching it as a primary on another computer or change the jumpers in the back so the drive knows it's a secondary

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...

Godspeed 788!!! We miss you!

PM me, my company does data recovery. I can get you in touch with the lead guy for a quick turn around.

If it's spinning the DC motor is working, but the controller board is probably fried, meaning the data is typically intact on the platters.

Find a same model + size hard drive and swap the boards.

Post the Brand + model number maybe someone has one laying around that you could.
Maybe somehas

Otherwise, yes it's pricey to send to a company.

Agreed, swap the boards. It's simple. In the Maxtor ones I've done, no soldering, just unscrew and swap.
