How to convert audio to MP3?

What software tools do you use to convert audio CD's to MP3. Is there
some Free/cheap tool to do this.

All I want is to convert some CD's into 1 CD-R MP3 format disk to test out
in my car.

Thanks

"Carlos"

Media Player 10 has it or I had to add an easy plugin. Works fine though.

I always used Blade Encoder and AudioGrabber. But there are probably newer tools out there.

the newest media player version does a VERY good job. I use it exclusively now. I used several different ones in the past, this one works the best. On my 3ghz computer i can rip an entire CD to mp3(any bitrate) in about 2.5 minutes.

Exact Audio coupled with the LAME mp3 codec is the way to go. Free and excellent quality rips.

Using windows media player (which i don't like as much) all you gotta do is go to burn, and there should be a button to click to make it an mp3 cd. I never had any converting program yet i made tons of mp3 cd's when i had to back up my computer. there should be 3 options i believe. Data Cd, MP3, or Exact copy. might be one other one, but not sure.

I am assuming that media player will allow you to convert several CD's to MP3 before burning the 1 cd (convert/write several audio cd to 1 mp3 disk)

Thanks everyone for the suggestion.
