Dell Laptops

Im in the market for Dell laptop - soon!
Are the prices likely to drop or will they typically run better deals towards the Christmas shopping season than theyre running now?

Something around a grand +/- from Dell that catches your eye?

I have the Latitude D810 and love it! From all that I am told and read, the best time to get a computer is around the beginning of the school year.

Check out a website..... gotapex.com. They always have deals, with dell usually being one of the first on the list. Just shows "coupons" on how to get great deals.

Yes check for online coupons and discount codes. My wife is awesome at finding them, she saved me a bunch of money on the flat panel monitor I just ought from dell.

Quite a while back, we had a discussion regarding durability of the various makes out there (paging BWA). Depending on what you plan to do with this notebook, you may want to reconsider buying a Dell. I know the price point is very attractive, but if you are going to be carrying it around a lot, I do not think it is the best choice. If you do plan on taking it with you often, and you have to have, I would recommend the Latitude series over the Inspiron series. +2 on gotapex.

LOL philly, no clue y you'd page me
I've had really good experience with apple notebooks, both at work (we had 6) and i 'converted' few of my buddies to them. Unless ya have some odd software that is Windows only, i wouldn't go with a Windblowz notebook. And you can get a decent one for $1000.

there are two periods of the year where computer manufacturers offer the "best" deals. 1) back to school and 2) xmas. you've probably already missed back to school. i'd wait a few months.

another reason to wait a few months is to wait for the dual-core cpu's to hit the streets in larger numbers. i believe the p4m dual core is out but not in big numbers yet. the intel's 64-bit m cpu is supposedly earmarked for release in late q1 of 06. but then again, intel is usually never on target. take all this with a grain of salt. i haven't been following intel's roadmaps closely for about a year or so.

After having spent countless hours cleaning up after peoples unsavory browsing habits (spyware/virus) I almost agree w/ Craze about going with the Apple (I said almost ). Depends on what apps you will be using. I agree w/ Sport Chick on the Latitude. I would just follow that advice and you should be fine.

Agree w/ just about everyhting except unless you wait 8 months to a year after the dual cores are released on the mobile platforms, you are going to get bent over on the price. Further, unless you are doing CAD work, or love to have 20 active programs running at the same time, you really don't have a need for the additional ~20% performance increase you will see w/ the duals over the current P4's

Get one of the newer Celeron/P4 based Dells w/ the larger cache and a GB of memory and you should be good to go. Dont buy the extra memory from Dell, go to Crucial or Newegg (www/.com on both) and get the extra memory form there. Another upgrade you may want to consider is a faster hard drive w/ a larger buffer. Go for a 5400 or 7200 RPM drive w/ 8MB buffer.

For that, it doesn't even matter what you get, any new computer will do it easily.

As for Dell deals, they rotate their deals like every week or 2. I'd wait it out until they come out with another 40% or $750 off laptops coupon.

I happen to be a Dell Affiliate. So when your interested in buying I can hook you up with a links to computers and codes that will lower the price considerably. I got my Inspiron 9300 fully loaded with the HD 17" LCD initial price 3200$ my price 1200$ this has the 256mg Nvidia 6800 in it. Sweet machine.

I have had plenty and I mean plenty of Dell's and I take them on my Bike all the time and have had absolutly no problems ever.
Toshiba on the other had every one of them I've had (5) had some stupid problem. I've had 3 IBM's and they last about 2 years before they fall apart.
I've had 2 HP's and same issue stuff stops working about a year and half in.

I've never owned an Apple laptop, but I would recommend them to someone who had the cash and wanted some major graphics quality. Just for the record I've hated Mac all my life since I had to support them and noone around me knew how to use them.

The new Dual core processor for the M series will be out in Februrary according to the Intel conference I was just at. Along with the Multi core for desktops (4 core)
So oviously that time would be good to get an M.
Never under any circumstance take adivce from someone who says to get a Celeron you will be very upset when you try and do anything with your computer.

Latitudes and Inspirons are made of the same exact casings and parts so there's no difference in quality, just design and price.

One last thing, if you really can wait the new Ubooks will be out soon. Which are Universal books. You'll beable to swap parts out like LCD, Video, and anything else that wasn't standardized before. But you won't find those at a major brand have to goto a mom and pop store for one, but they'd be worth it just for being able to upgrade them.

Just email me if you want those deals.

Watch for coupon deals on xpbargains.com or slickdeals. I love my Inspiron 600 and spent about $800 on it.

I just replaced a defective hard drive, (again) on a buddy's Dell laptop. Don't mistake a Dell's PC quality to that of a Dell's laptop quality. They are two totally different things.

having just repaired 3 windows laptops I can't in good conscience recommend them to anyone for their sanity and my own.

....but if you just need it for basic office stuff, you should just go bargin shopping on ebay. Anything from the last 5 years is sufficient for that.

OK since you have had "so many Dell's" in your life time, why don't you name a few for me sp. model numbers.
And while you are at it, please enlighten me as to when you got the inside info about a four core desktop CPU from Intel. This must be info. for just the privleged "Dell Affiliates." Are you sure that you did not mistake the New Xeon (server CPU) line of processors i.e.Whitefield (which incidently has all 4 cores sharing the same L2) for the desktop line? Yes, I am sure this is what you mean. . And how many Dell notebooks did YOU support for your coworkers. Have you COMPLETELY taken apart and rebuilt any Latitudes, Inspirons lately?? I take offense to the asinine comment, "Never under any circumstance take adivce from someone who says to get a Celeron you will be very upset when you try and do anything with your computer." You obviously know nothing about the architecture of the Intel CPU's specifically the newer Celeron processors, as well as your previously mentioned mystery desktop CPU with the four cores. And a work of advice about the Intel Channel Conferences, it is a bunch of BS marketing designed to distract you that Intel is increasingly being embarassed by the fact that AMD has been making a better product for some time now; I would know as I have been there the past two years. I would not comment on Real Estate as I do not do this for a living and know that I am not an expert in the field. Perhaps you should reconsider your title as computer expert.

you may be 101% right but Im just not up to speed on *anything* with Mac to make the move. And I dont have time to research and learn it. Need to stick with a known product..yes, even though in your mind it may be inferior. I just dont seem to burn through Notebooks like others. This one is on 4+ years without too many hickups
