PC Virus Threat

12-16-05

Friends,

The I.T. Director of my company just alerted everyone in a staff meeting today of a new computer virus that is timed to activate on January 5, 2006.

It is called SOBER and the especially bad variant of SOBER is called "Y".

If you have this virus, it will appear to take your computer to a harmless, commonly used website but in reality it will be a "spoofed" or faked URL that actually downloads the most current version of this destructive virus. It will totally mess up your computer -- possibly beyond repair.

Make SURE you are running very good anti-virus software and that you are either MANUALLY getting DAILY updates to it or have it set to automatically update for the latest anti-virus definitions and then run that anti-virus software -- DAILY.

A friend of mine -- and you know who you are -- failed to do this and it has really messed up his system, from other viruses.

And don't forget you need to do the same with anti-spyware/spybot and anti-adware protection software and keep those updated frequently, too.

It's a dangerous world out there!! Protect yourself!!

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Is that the one with "hi_ive_a_new_email_address" amongst other things. It took a couple days for Yahoo splamblocker to catch them all, but it finally did.

We were getting 5 or 6 a day sneak through work as well for about a week.
