Is it possible to download from iTunes.com in MP3 or WMA format? If so, how?

I JUST bought an IPOD (30 GB). I WANTED to get the Creative Labs Zen Micro, but out of the 3 on display at Best Buy, all were in some shape of 'not working properly'. Sucked, because that's one of the rare ones with a Li-Cd battery that is removeable, which comes in handy when the battery takes a crap. $40 and 30 seconds and you've got a new battery. IPODs require $100 battery and shipping it to Apple.

Not so sure about that. I know they have to have some sort of DRM going on (especially having already been busted once), and they say that they can turn off your music if you don't pay membership dues. That suggests that they only supply files that can be locked down for non-payment: probably not MP3s. Don't know about WMA files, though.

Yes they do have some sort of DRm something to the effect of if your player doesnt check in with thier system for a certain amount of time the songs stop working.

A yahoo search found 2 fairly respectable looking sites, ipodjuice.com and ipodbatterydepot.com . Ipod battery depot already has a kit for the latest Ipod, the other site didn't yet. Ipodjuice has an option to send your ipod to them (um, probably 1 person), they will do the labor and ship it back. Both were paying for premium highlighted Yahoo search space, so they are probably pretty decent.

Got a little freaked out by the Best Buy guy trying to sell me a service plan.."WHEN the battery goes out it will be $100 and 3 weeks from Apple."

A lot of players have the 'play anything' logo on them. Pretty much they play any music file you have..guaranteed. Is his older or something? The technology is changing super fast now...those $100 1GB flash drive ones will be $50 come next Christmas.

That doesn't mean anything, really. I tried about 5 different mp3 players and music sites before I finally gave up and went back to old school 'questionable' downloading. I have no problem paying $ for a song, but I have a problem when they tell me I can only keep it on one player, or that it will expire in 6 months...
Therefore I feel no guilt. I swear. Really. Honestly.

You want actual MP3 files for cheap? Try allofmp3.com. You can get a whole album for under $2.00. The price their stuff by the megabyte.

I've downloaded over 150 mb for under 4 bucks.

No clue, I've never even used mine yet If it's been less than a year, return it under warranty. Downside is, you'll PROBABLY get a refurbished one in place of yours. That could be way older than the one you have, been beat up, through hell, etc.

I'd do a search for repairing Ipods. Since Apple has a 1 year warranty and openly says they'll give you a refurbished one, there probably is a place that will fix it. Both the battery sites I listed say they do not do repairs. I can see the headphone jack as being the weakest point though. There is probably only 2 pins soldered on there, and it has a big lever arm (in relation to the joints) from which to stress it.

Songs downloaded through iTunes can be put on as many iPods as you want. You can also play them on 5 different computers.
That's about as lax as the laws get.

all you have to do is copy the files from one machine to the other (network, usb key, cd-rw, ...., sync up your ipod on other machines, ... however you get it there) the DRM allows you to use iTunes downloaded songs on up to 5 different computers. the different machines just have to be able to chat on the internet and authenticate to the Apple iTunes server when you play those songs on your computer

Mine throws back some stupid error. I wasn't using Itunes though. It was Rapsody or however ya spell it. We couldn't put them on the server and access them or anything. It was stupid! We have two Ipods...both minis and we share music. I think my Itunes is messed up though because it occassionally won't update both i pods, just one. Anyone know anything about that?

might have to check the prefs when the other ipod is plugged in. if it has a different name, then it might have separate prefs on your computer.

sounds like you wouldn't want it to autoupdate anyway if you have different playlists between them.
