operating systems

I know fixing puters for friends is a hassle. Especially with XP. Some people will have preexisting installation of XP and theres no way to fix their computer and i have to use other alternatives :x

I havn't come across the deny to use xp from someones computer yet. Some people get adware and viruses where formatting is the only option. And i have read that formatting too many times kills your registry key.

So what do people that fix puters for a living do about this?

Are there any new operating systems that will be more user friendly? I dont like linux that much.
I heard things like longhorn and something like virtual are out there or coming out soon.

I have come accross where rebuilding is the only option. I rebuild it. I've never heard that formatting too many times kills the registry key.

If you want OS's with less hassle:

Suse 10 Linux. It's so simply straight forward now, it's not even funny
or
Mac OSX Tiger

As far as the XP problem, are you simply talking about doing a Reinstall of XP Over what's there now? A repair/recovery or a "format my HD and start over" install?

Everyone Exaggerates

Main problem is some people dont have the XP software. So i have to use some other alternatives. :x And another pain in the ass thing is when they dont have any of the driver cds.

some computers i booted off the CD and did a repair. And other times that didn't work because there were still viruses. And i needed to format.
