NNTP question

I got a new program and it wants a "target NNTP server" what the hell is that??
So what do I put in that spot?

Did you mean NNTP for Net News (Newsgroups)
or
NTP for Network Time Protocol (Keeps your computer clock sync'd right) ?

NNTP is usually provided by your internet provider. Not many places run publically accessible newsgroups anymore, though you could google for some.

NTP just needs a public timehost, though sometimes your network provider supplies that as well with: timehost.domain.whatever

If you're using neither, then leave it blank.

Not sure what 'program' you're talking about ....

It's NNTP and it's called Ghostsurf (some extra goodies it came with). It does say for news group stuff, and I have to have something there. So if i put a "0" and it closes it won't do anything bad?

you could always put 127.0.0.1 which means YOUR machine.

If it requires something, but you're not using that function, this is usually a relatively safe thing to put in to get beyond some braindead programmer's 'requirement'.

If you are not using Usenet Newsgroups, then don't worry about it.

If you *ARE*, then you need to enter the host name of the news server you are trying to read from / post to.

Thanks, So I just used "127.0.0.1" in that spot and it worked. So I won't get anything, but it worked. An I correct?

since you're a comcast user, the settings you want if you want to read newsgroups is

server: newsgroups.comcast.net
you have to authenticate with one of your comcast.net email accounts so use your [email protected] and your password.

more info on setting up newsgroups for your comcast account can be read at http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/inde...cat=Newsgroups

Thanks, I never really got inot the internet side of things. I know the basics, but just enough to get by and doe a trouble call every once in a while. Now Video I can do with a blinde fold on. Since I really don't need the news groube it's nice I don't have too so I'll put the "127.0.0.1" in the spot so it lets me continue. Thanks again for your help.
