iPod questions from a newbie to all this.

i figured 1 i will need some help from time to time so will others.

i dont feel like joining some other board to get answers when there is so many of us on here to help each other, and alot of people have had iPods for years.

well i guess ill start.

i am uploading my current 6g's that i have in itunes.

i have atleast 300 cd's to rip, not to mention what ever i might download.

WHATS the best way to manage to add new stuff that i enter from time to time and then upload it to my ipod.

just use the AUTOMATIC selection for each time i plug in ipod to update my songs and etc?

i would like to be in control of it, BUT if thats the easyest way and i dont have to put album by ablum file swapping. then so be it.

thanks.

I personally dont use the automatic, I make different playlists, such as 90 rock 80 rock, metal, blues, etc then I place new music I add in those playlists, then just click and drag the playlist after I've updated it to the ipod and it loads it up. it makes it much easier to find your music on the ipod as well.

can that be bad alot of deleting re entering?

does this thing have a defrag option or something?

I use a program called CDEX. It makes mp3 files instead of Itunes. Downside is that it doesn't automatically put it into the Itunes directory structure. Well, that could be a plus if you are into making playlists (which I do for some).

Is there anyway to have random songs played off a playlist though? If I throw all my Misfits CDs into a playlist, can I have it randomly select songs instead of original or alphabetical order?

Unless you think you're going to go over 30GB, I'd just synchronize the entire library.

Or follow my directions in your other thread about creating a playlist of items for the iPod to synch with.

you can config iTunes to import in mp3 format instead of their proprietary aac, and all items of course would be integrated into your library as normal.

Nut you can't use LAME to encode w/ iTunes (unless you running a Mac). I encide with EAC using the LAME codec, then import inyo my iTunes lbrary.

synchronize - automatic option - it means when you hook up your ipod, itunes will automatically replace all folders on your ipod with folders from itunes.

I use manual, sometimes you add just one song, and that little shit will replace all folders. time consuming.

Rip songs using itunes. Change it to mp3 instead ACC. Deselect automatic option for folder update.

For checking videos..try and find some video podcasts.

I know a radio show back home has video for Ipods. I've got a couple of them and need to download a few more. There's probably tons of them out there.

http://www.radioplayhouse.com is the show. It's some funny shit.

It does support MP3 natively, but only the built-in codec. LAME is the best (IMO) codec to use for mpeg3 audio quality.

I use to have lock up issues with my Mini... now the battery will not hold a charge. It's two years old and the battery is done, I am going to relagate it to car duty only as it can be on the charger at all times then.

Since it's $80 for a new battery, I was just going to pick up the Nano, is Apple still having issues with their batteries?

There are online places that can do battery replacement if you aren't comfortable. They also sell the batteries so you can do it yourself, and give you the tools so you don't damage the Ipod.

A 5th generation Ipod battery is around $30 shipped, with tools.
