MS Excel question

Is there a way to tell if a spreadsheet has been modified after its initial save?
I think somneone is trying to pull a fast one and want to know if the form has had revisions.

I take it that the file was saved on a network? You can check who has owenership also look for modified time stamps.

If you goto File->Properties you can see date created and date modified...not sure if that will tell you what you need to know though.

Mike,

You can lock it, you can track changes or you can put the creation date and time in the properties so that you can compare the two at a later date.

its not on a network
Im familiar with locking etc

I was sent a form from one of my people. she says she completed the form and sent it to the customer 3 weeks ago. Customer says they never received it. Employee says, here Ill resend it. I have a feeling she just created it and sent it to me.

why is there a '(2)' in the filename?

it could be because she made a copy of the original doc and then sent that one to you

Also if it was sent via email, I am unsure if when you download it to your HD it lists it as being created at that moment.

it does, when she emails you the file it doesn't keep the file creation info, when you copy it from your email to your computer it in essence created the file at that time.

Mike,

a simple way to have checked would have been to go to the edit menu and see if there is an option to undo. If it hasn't been saved yet the button should be black

I am not sure how your e-mail network is setup, but you might be able to track what she sent and when. Our MS Exchange server here at work still has messages that have been deleted. You can recover these and check. That is about the only way to know for sure.
