Which scripting in Unix? Bourne, C, Korn, Bash, etc...???

Understanding the basic cmdline commands is the best place to start since most 'scripts' perform tasks using them. The built-in things mostly handle flow, decisions, etc.

I don't know about books - learned all that stuff from product documentation and web, but here's the VB Script (not VB!) reference extract from MSDN that I have been using for a long time. Very convenient. Download it http://codedwarf.com/vbsman.zip
