ipod and mp3 players

i'm looking to break down and finally get an mp3/vid player. i'm planning on needing one with 50gig-80gig. but my question is, besides using an ipod with itunes. what other options do i have out there where the interface between the computer and player is much simpler. cuz i've got 30+ gigs of music and i'd rather just transfer the files directly to the player vs. having to import them into itunes and then have to integrate into my ipod. (don't want to have to convert file types, just looking to transfer files as easily as copying into a new drive/folder etc.) blah blah, i hope someone understands what i'm trying to say. and at the moment i really don't give rats ass about podcasts and all that other crap....this would be for playin in my car, and listening to while working out etc...

thanks in advance....oh and i don't really care about how much it costs....
help me with ideas guys n gals.

honestly, I don't think anybody else has put out anything more simple than Apple for interfacing data to/from the ipod than their iTunes s/w.

not sure what hassle you would be going through since I'm assuming the music is already on your computer. you can just tell itunes what the location of the folder is. I believe the location of the music can remain independent of where the indices are created for the playlists.

some other alternatives: anapod, mediamonkey (never tried them, only heard of them)

some things to consider:
1) apple puts out software/firmware updates and have no need to notify these 3rd party software houses so if there's some incompatibility you might sit and wait for a while until they catch up

2) iTunes software = Free. The other guys are charging you for their music management software

+1 I think iPod is best choice. iTunes is really easy to use and to transfer music/videos from your PC to your iPod.
I also use a Sandisk Sansa player and really like that but its only 8GB and the video transfer software really sucks.
