Ipod "music folder/merging/files into same folder"

question cause right now i am having a brain fart.

i currently had 203G worth of music in 1 folder.

got my hands on another 109G worth and saved it into my computer in a new separate file.

while i kinda cleaned up the new addition to cut down on the same artist/albums, there is some duplicates also there isnt.

when i take the new 109G folder and cut and paste or copy and past all the folders into the folder with 209G

it keeps asking me:

there is a folder already named "EXAMPLE" (aerosmith) do i want to replace it, YES, YES TO ALL, NO

so ofcourse i hit no, i dont want to replace my current folder of aerosmith with 5 albums with this 1 folder with only 1 album i dont have.

how do i merge these mother fuckers?

ill go through it later and clean out the duplicates when i have time.

thanks

OR dont even worry about it?

just upload the 109G folder with my current collection FROM THAT SEPARATE FOLDER?

if i do this CAN, WILL itunes know to get what ever music from location 1 folder, and what ever other music from the 2 folder location?

for all intense purposes i rather have 1 large folder.

unless thats a bad thing?

Say NO, make note, and manually copy them from the specified directory to the target directory.

ie: Open up Example directory and Ctrl-A, COPY go to destination, and Paste.

If you had Cygwin installed (that I keep hinting at) it's as easy as:

> cd /Srcdirectory
> tar fcv - . | (cd /targetdirectory ; tar fx -)

Boom, done... everything in the src is overlayed in the destination without destroying anything there unless it's by the same name, then it is copied over, but does not delete anything that may pre-exist that is not in the src directory.

This assumes that Windows Copy is going to REPLACE the 'EXAMPLE' directory first (which will wipe the existing contents) before populating it with the files you are trying to copy there.

Everyone Exaggerates

iTunes can recognize music from 2 different sources. Go to file -> add folder to library and select your folder with the 109G.

I would probably move then an artist at a time, open Aerosmith in your main folder then cut and paste over the album from the 109G folder and delete the duplicates. Kill two birds with one stone, get the folders merged and take care of the duplicates. And with iTunes having both you can do it at your leisure and have all your music in iTunes still

thanks for that arch, but i cant grasp it cause i don't know what you are talking about.

but i did a little test, and i am remembering that this test is the same way i use to do it when i was working on joining my collection.

i have selected for itunes to manage and organize my folders and albums.

my music folder is names itunes music "by default" and now i selected to add NEW FOLDER , which is named new music.

as it started to copy the music into my library it also is copying all the new stuff from NEW MUSIC into my library in itunes and copying the folders to my ITUNES MUSIC folder. "so in essence is doing it for me"

i think this was the way i was doing it before then manually went through to see which duplicates i wanted to get ride of. so far its working like i said.

maybe its a retard way of doing it, but its working.
