Does anyone have any experiance with OWA?? If I log into an account on the web, I can see my mail and everything is great. But because OWA puts email messages into web pages by subject line, (for example, the subject of an email is "testing", the URL will be //servername/mailbox/testing.eml or something like that. Well the problem is, if there is a character in the subject line that doesn't transpose into the URL very well. For example, if there is a period in the subject of the email. IE- the subject is "testing..." Now the URL will try to fetch //servername/mailbox/testing....eml And that's a no-gooda. So... any suggestiong?? Is there a way to manual open the page with said email to be viewable???

Can't reproduce your issue @ my work, I just get a pop-up window hit the clicked e-mail. What version of OWA are you using??

it should prompt for a login, then take you to the mailbox.
can't you just click on the email and it opens?

Yes and no... when I click on an email with a normal subject line, it does open. It opens great. When I click on an email with a period in the subject line, such as "CLSB..." then I get a 404 file not found error. (because it's trying to go to a web page that has ... in it. LIke CLSB....eml or CLSB....html or whatever it uses. HELP!

https://owa.companyname.com/exchange...lahblah....eml

And in the preview window I get, "server cannot find specified file, it maye have been deleated or moved". But I know the message is in the inbox, because if I search for words that I KNOW are in the message, the message shows up in the results window of a search. But again, I get the same results when I try to click on the message. Is there another way to get into the mailbox? Like a telnet command to see messages? Or maybe an IMAP account so I can leave the messages on the server, but I can view them without using the OWA client for exchange 2003?? I know the messages are there... but I can't see them. This has been going on for a while, but I'm just getting tired of dealing with it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

is everything on one server?

do you have a front-end server?

what is the web server settings?

Why cant you you outlook?

imap/pop3 you could do pop3 check the box to leave copy of mail on the server.

you aren't trying to access from a MAC are you?
what browser are you using?

is this a new install of OWA/exchange?

Interesting, I have not heard of this before, but periods in a subject line are not uncommon, so I'm sure it's not a bug in the OWA code, but possibly a problem with your specific implementation, maybe an IIS misconfiguration.

I'm going to look into this.

Here's an example URL for a test message I sent using one of my customer's OWA 2003 systems:

://mail.verver.null/exchange/jschertz/Drafts/Test....TEST%20.%20ETest%20.e%20..%20e..EML?Cmd=op en

You can see the URL is littered with periods, and it works fine. So that points to my original guess that something may not be configured correctly in IIS.

Okay, I think I know what it might be. Do you know if your Exchange server is published behind an ISA server?

If so, the OWA publishing rule in ISA 2004 has a Verify Normalization setting under the HTTP properties that should be enabled.
If it's ISA 2000, then the urlscan.ini configuration file might be configured to block special characters.
If no ISA, then look at this KB article for info on using the URLscan utility on IIS.

RESOLVED...

It appears there is an issue with an ini file that doesn't allow special characters, (anything with a "." at the end of a subject line)

see here if interested... http://forums.msexchange.org/m_90110900/tm.htm
