New notebook time!

So i have ~1300ish in the new laptop fund, and i'm very unsure of what to buy. I've always like tablets, but they lack in power. I'd definately want it to be good for gaming, though. That is my main concern, I already have office that i can install, so i dont need to worry about buying that w/the puter.

so, my question is, what is the best buy for my $$?

so primary tasks are...

1. CLSB..and internets
2. Gaming
3. schoolwork (i have office xp for it)

Btw, i was on dell, and can get this system for $1261, good/bad deal??

Save yourself a few hundred bucks on the laptop and just get a good one for internet/schoolwork. With the money you save, buy yourself a 360. PC gaming is lame

If you can find it - get a hard drive with 7200RPM, not 5400. Slow hard drives are one of the biggest performance bottlenecks for the laptops. I'm not sure if Dell has 7200RPM models, though.

The tradeoff is shorter battery time and extra heat.

Most people don't do disk-intensive things w/ laptops... so figure out if you really need this route or not.

Stuffing that thing full of RAM will drastically drop your biggest need to hit the HD (swapping).

Check eBay.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

True. However, I brought this up because gaming was mentioned. Modern games need to read obscene amounts of data all the time.

I have 7200RPM 60Gb in my Lenovo Thinkpad T43. Battery life is around 3 and something hours - a bit shorter than the normal 4, but the heat has never been an issue. Small tradeoff for drastic improvement in speed.

Ok, well i think that i was having a 'phase' of wanting a sweet new puter...but after thinking about it, i have access to a computer easily, i can play games on mhy ps2(and can get a 360 on ebay easily), and have all summer in case i really do need a puter for schoolwork this fall.

Now, as paladin suggested, on to guns! jk

Eh, glad i didnt buy on a whim while on ebay there

Might and Magic rocks. 2, 3, 4+5 are my faves. I'm old school.

Since you're over the new laptop desire, I'll not add my thoughts on those.
