Email problems with gmail and thunderbird

Anyone else having issues today? Thunderbird keeps asking me for my gmail password and then over and over it keeps giving me a password error.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

thunderbird is having no problems pulling my comcast mail from that account, just my gmail account. I haven't changed anything so I'm thinking maybe google is having problems but I find that hard to believe with how reliable their servers are.

Can you read your gmail via their webmail interface (outside of thunderbird)?

Also, they are an AS IS, AS AVAILABLE service...

Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

You all are so incredibly helpful

Yes arch I can read through the online service, it's just a thunderbird issue.

Mine will do the same thing after a few weeks. Then I just go through, delete all cookies, online files, offline files, and delete all of my saved passwords, and go through and start over... works 100% of the time for me.

G/L!

It's entirely possible that there was just a data disconnect between the physical machine(s) you are hitting for pop3 service (via thunderbird) and the physical (or logical) machine(s) your authentication data resides on. For whatever reason, it (the pop3 machines) could not connect to the authentication service to verify your username/password and was FAILING the auth attempt (which thunderbird was interpreting as you have the wrong password so it was prompting you again).

Their webmail interface is probably handled by another set of machines that was not experiencing the connection problem to your data. As a result, you could get in and do your email stuff.

There's a bazillion reasons for this behavior on the pop3 side of the house and most of the time it's a temporary thing stemming from machine or software failure or a planned outage/software upgrade.

Is it still happening today?
