I need a telephone solution

Just switched to Comcast telephony service so right now I only have one phone hooked up. It's a long walk from the front of the house to the back of the house. What are my choices for getting phones in multiple rooms?

Phones need to have caller ID on the handset and that's it. Are there cordless phones with one base and multiple units?

get a panasonic 5.8 FHDSS set.

One base and the other handhelds only need power.

you can get a two piece set, or four piece with the same handset.

Great units minimal returns.

yep, if you've got wireless for your laptop try and find a base/handset(s) combo that won't interfere with your wifi frequency

wander down the telephone aisle at best buy, sam's club or costco and you'll see a ton of brands that offer what you're looking for

I went with the Panasonic KX-TG5634M 4 piece set. No more having to run across the house to answer a call. For now I have been forwarding all calls to my cell.

Local stores wanted bukoo dollars. Amazon wanted $149+ shipping. Scored a deal on eBay from a power seller for $123 shipped to my door. Brand new, 1 year warranty.

I just got a 4 phone set from CostCo for about $100. I think they are Panasonic. They rock.

The Panasonic 5.8 DHSS rocks! After charging up all 4 phones, I put them all to good use. Very clear sound. The phones can be used to intercom each other and the range is awesome. Definitely a good buy. Thanks Firebretha.

Uhm, ya got phone jacks throughout the house? If so, you can just plug the phone cable directly between your phone line modem, and a jack, than plug any phone anywhere in the house...

I cant believe it took till post 10 till someone came up with that, I wish I had seen this thread sooner.

yes it works, just make sure yo go to the box on your house and disconnect all incoming wires form the SBC network you dont want a lightning strike feeding directly into you modem followed by your computer. Phones lines are the most common transmitter of power surges.

Watch www.woot.com they have some great deals on multi line phones that only need 1 to be plugged into a phone jack. The others plug into the electrical outlets.

Yes I still need a land line. I regularly take/make international calls and other people in my household need it as well. I'd love to do without it since I have 4K free minutes on my Treo but nope I still need a land line.

Until cellphone companies come out with unlimited minutes anywhere, including major countries in Europe, for $24.99, yes, I'm gonna keep a house phone.

Depends how many times you call...if it's not much then just buy calling cards.

add the cost of cell phone minutes together with the calling cards,

plus both are an inconveinance,
1. waiting till your night free minutes
2. hitting 18 digits for the calling card

where as vonage he just picsk up and calls europe.

I said that it depends on how many times you call. If it's once a month for 10 mins, then it makes sense.

Call me old fashioned, but I like to be able to move around and talk, instead of being stuck to a desktop or laptop. Not to mention that not as many folks there (Poland) are connected to the internet like we are here. Than there is the elders, who don't even know wtf a damn computer even is

In all seriousness, I got it for my wife mostly. I also wanted a local # where I'm stationed, without changing our cell #'s. With vonage, with a click of a button I can have all the calls automatically forwarded to one our cellphones. Ya actually get a shitloads of features for a price ya won't find on any cell phone plan nowadays...
