If I was with AT&T, I would but Sprint will of course be 2.7 years behind and release it in 2009

I'd give it a holla if it ever comes to Sprint. So far it is nothing but a gimmick. The Apple fan boys will flock to it like flies on poo.

Love all the naysayers.

The iPod was a dumb idea as well. Whether or not the iPhone is a good product, once again, Apple will force changing the face of cell phones as we now know them.

It's new and cool, I'm sure interface will rock and Apple probably will revolutionize the cell phone market, but do you really want to pay to be a free beta tester? Fuck no. This is an extremely complicated product and it will have a lot of problems in the first months. I would wait for the first revision.

PS If you think Apple always gets the things right the first time, download Safari for Windows. And read how many security vulnerabilities were found few days after the release.

I think it is real cool but I have absolutely no need for it. I barely need a cell phone.

Now that is funny. It's Apple's fault that Windows has so many security holes that you could drive a thousand trucks through them? Go count your security updates... BTW, Apple responded to the vulnerability the next day, and they will continue to do so until all of the Safari for Windoze holes are patched.. even then, there will be more... welcome to Windoze.

Wrong argument for this thread, do a search for Apple bashing and hop into the 50 other threads.

My point was that the iPhone will change cell phones for the future, whether it has bugs or not. For example, How many revs of the iPod are there? It sure wasn't correct the first time, but it changed the music industry forever.

Am I missing something? What is so innovative about the iPhone? The only innovative thing I see is the all touch screen interface. If I ignored the lower third of my Treo 700p, I too can have an all touch screen phone. I prefer the buttons though as it is easier to type. Maybe Apple perfected the touch screen.

The iPod was ahead of it's time allowing it to hit a niche market. The iPhone is too little too late. Not to mention it will be coupled with AT&T's Edge network which is notoriously slow.

In the end though, it will sell. 1) It's flashy. and 2) There are a lot of iPod/Apple fans out there.

Nah it's not that it's a bad product, just tough to figure that it's worth the money and high rate plans. I bet that if they had a base model that was just a phone with touch screen and the standard features of what we're used to today (no data), then it would sell like hotcakes. Most are buying it for the new cool factor, not any practical features. At the same time if they had a higher end model that incorporated better with businesses then that would probably sell well too. Right now it seems like they made it somewhere in between so it appeals to no one but the more hardcore apple or techie/gotta have it fans in my view.

Er... I really, really don't want another Mac vs Win argument here. My point merely is that Apple isn't infallible. If it was possible at all to fix the security flaw, it was certainly possible not to create it in the first place. Blaming browser vulnerability on the OS is like crashing a bike and saying it was crash-prone. No matter, lets not discuss this here.

My point is - I like Apple as a company and they're good at what they do, but they do make mistakes, just like everyone else. And with such a complicated device, mistakes are unavoidable.

As far as the revisions of iPod - well, I have no idea, but quite a few. Plus, the firmware is updated all the time via iTunes.

Once again, I'm not bashing Apple... I'm opposing the idea of believing that the new device will be perfect right away just because it was made by Apple.

Won't it support 3G? I've just switched to Cingular / AT&T and 3G connectivity is available at most places. Tested connection speed couple of times, at home and in DT and it was around 800Kbps down / 250 kbps up (speakeasy test). I say it's not bad.

I think Biggy has it... the product is over priced and the cost of the service is high and the network is slow. Plus it is a new product that will surely have problems (as all new products do).

For my money, I'll wait for the next version or even later. Hell, I don't even have an iPod (although my kids do).

Early adopters will surely buy it, then find out all the bugs for us. Higher end version is already under development, just like they continued to grow the iPod product line.

Too expensive, too new, and too slow for me at the moment. BUT... none of that was my point anyway. I only stated that it should start another change in the way that a technology is used and implemented. Like the Mac changed the desktop (Windows followed), the iPod changed music distribution (MS is following), and the iPhone will change cell phone interfaces (MS was there first as well as Palm...).

That all said, I think the thing is cooler than any phone I have seen. Just my

Well the dropped the ball big time by going with EDGE. AT&T is already rolling out its HSDPA network in like 160 markets. Here in Chicago I regularly get 700+kbps on HSDPA (3G) and that limitation is the network not the devices / technology. They could open it to like 1.8Mbps. The funny thing is a bunch of zealots (who like most Apple fans are about as technically inclined as frozen caveman from the Italian alps) will indeed buy this device. Within 6-12 months Apple will then release a new version (probably costing even more money) and they will buy that one too. Not including 3G these days is stupid (but Apple is a smart marketing machine, so they must have a reason). Oh best of all, you can't use EDGE and talk on the phone at the same time (unlike HSDPA).

Not saying this to bash it, plenty of others don't have these features, but here's a list of things that it doesn't have:

• Songs as Ringtones
• Games
• Any flash support
• Instant Messaging
• Picture messages (MMS)
• Video recording
• Voice recognition or voice dialing
• Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP)
• One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones)
• 3G (EV-DO/HSDPA)
• GPS
• A real keyboard
• Removable battery
• Expandable Storage
• Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE)

Some of those features seem like they should be a no brainer. No mp3's as ring tones? No IM? Wuzup with that? The battery thing might be pretty bad too. We're not talking an Ipod that you charge once a week or so and don't care how many charge cycles it gets. If the battery can be removed and replaced for cheap then fine. But if that built in battery costs a ton to replace then that's also not so nice.
