Laptop

Ok looking to buy a laptop this weekend or sooner! Here is the thing... I have a $1000 credit at Best Buy so have to buy from there... which one can I get for about $1000. So far I've heard to go with HP... only thing is I don't need some of the stuff on there, like a web cam or the labeling thing-a-ma-jig
SO all I want the lap to to do is hold my Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, my pictures, my music, my videos ( about 10GB combined so far music, vids, pics ) and to be able to run more than 2-3 windows at a time while keeping up Going to have to be wireless but I already have a card for that... Obviously want something durable and has the up to date technology... even those that changes like every 2 months it seems Would be cool if it could play DVD's too Don't really need a burner or anything like that, can always use a friend's comp for that.
Only thing.... NO APPLES!
Help me... please!

Bikes can be replaced...people can't...ride safe!!

I just bought a HP Pavillion something or other from Best Buy for $997 a few weeks ago... I love it so far!! It's got a widescreen and it's really light... I don't really know anything about computers, but I've had a few computer geeks say its a really good one! It has a CD/DVD burner and a remote! lol... I don't know the rest of the specs on it, but its purty and fast!

Sorry, I guess I'm not really helpful!

What you are looking for is pretty much the low end standard as far as laptops go, so that's good for you.

I would personally just go to Best Buy and look around and ask some questions to the people working there. Since you're not looking for anything crazy out of a laptop, they should be able to answer your questions.

For example, I just picked a random, mid priced HP and it will do everything you're looking for with ease:

Since your budget is limited, HP is a good choice. Just remember, I personally think the most important feature of a laptop is durabilty, and HP's arent known for that. Be ginger with it and it will serve you well, throw it around a bit and it wont last long.

I've worked for HP for 4 years...they are very hit or miss with quality. The business line is far better then the consumer line.

I've not looked at laptops in while, but my first choice if I want wiz bang features is Sony, my second choice if I just want a good Laptop is Dell.

I'm not sure either one of these helps you any.

I have time to kill between work here in Schaumburg and SOW meet up.
I might swing by Best Blow today and see what they have in stock and offer you some suggestions.

I have one of those TXN29N models - carbon fiber case, really small , light and seems pretty durable- I got the extended two day turnaround warranty with expedited shipping option. I will get it back or a new one within 48 hours if there is a problem ;-)

When is the last time you worked with a sony laptop- I would have agreed until about a year ago. I bought exclusively IBM's for many years, tried some sony stuff a few years ago, and sent them back. I liked the compactness of the new ones so I test drove one- I love it! They have done away with all the proprietary hardware and software they used to put on them- the thing rocks. It really does.

OK Hunny...I checked the Bestbuy website and here is what you need:

Model Number at BB: dv6308nr

Hewlett-Packard - Pavilion Notebook with AMD Turion™ 64 X2 dv6308nr
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 mobile technology TL-50; 1GB DDR2 SDRAM; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.4" widescreen; 120GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium

I worked on Computers for a 10 years and have 6 of my own on my home network. AMD 64 X2 is a dual core CPU with all the power you will ever need in the next 3-4 years. Not to mention it is a native 64bit CPU. This PC comes with Vista Home Premium (it includes Media Center so you can watch TV if you want). The memory is 1GB, standard on most PC's now, and it includes a 15.4 widescreen monitor. The price is 749.00 so you won't have to max out your Best Buy Credit Card and if you like you can go with an extended warranty. (I personally wouldnt' get an extended warranty)

If you have any direct questions you can PM me, but based on what you posted your need for the laptop to be, and your limited to best buy this would be your best choice.

A gaming laptop with 256mb dedicated video, 17" WSXGA+ monitor for high resolutions, Intel core 2 duo (not Intel core duo) w/ intergrated a/b/g/n wi-fi and minimum 2Gb memory.

This laptop should cost around $2000 - $2500
