Can't Change Desktop Background

I cannot change my desktop background for some reason. I right click pictures and select set as desktop background but it doesn't take, the screen stays black. I right click the desktop and select properties and then desktop tab and it won't let me select a default background or even click on the browse button. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Did you already reboot at least once?

What OS?

Is this a home or business computer?

I restarted it a couple times last night and it is XP at home. The weird thing is I just restarted it now and it works now. So i guess nevermind.

Some kind of spyware probably edited the registry entry. It's kind of hard (lengthy) to explain how to fix, let me see if I can find you a tutorial.

Ok, well I guess it's not that bad to explain. Go to Start>Run and type "regedit" then navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\policies" and make sure there is nothing about nochange wallpaper. If there is, right click and hit edit I think and change the 1 to a 0 (if it is a 1).

BTW, don't ever just 'edit your registry' on the advice of someone on a message board. Unless you personally know them, then you can kick him/her square in the nuts/beaver when your PC doens't boot anymore :P

Yeah, I wouldn't jack around with you, but their may be people who would, so I guess take those other guys advice and not edit your registry on a whim. I was just telling you of a possible source of the wallpaper lock. Did you figure it out yet??
