Xbox 360 Pro or Elite?

Hi:

It's time for me to break down and buy a gaming system. Halo 3 is coming out and I want to play. #1 son recommended the Pro. He said it has plenty of punch for me. I have not looked too hard and see some pricing in the $350 range. The Elite raises the anti to $480. The only real differences I see are the size of the HD 20g vs. 120 and that the Elite comes with HDMI. I doubt I'll burn more that 20g, but who knows... Is HDMI better than the component HD cable? Any other reasons to go with an Elite? I really don't know shit about Xbox.

Help!

Thx,

Bruce

Unless you really need HDMI go with pro. If you are going to add the HD-DVD, go elite.

When did they start calling it Pro? I thought it was Core, Premium, and now Elite.

Does your TV have HDMI currently? Do you plan on upgrading anytime soon? You dont need the extra memory unless you plan on downloading a bunch of movies at time?

PS3 is overpriced and doesn't have any games worth buying for.

The Wii doesn't really compare to either as it is on a completely different playing field.

Sony is going to start selling an adapter to convert your PS3 to a Tivo like device. Might be nice if you dont have one already.

When you start adding up the cost of all the extras you'll need for the 360 a PS3 is the same price.

As has been said though a big reason to buy a 360 is the games. I just finished Resistance and The Darkness for PS3 and now there isn't anything I'd like to play until the middle of Sept when John Woo's Stanglehold comes out. But even that's going multiplatform.

just got a 360 for the sole purpose of Guitar Hero, and I suck, I like to say that I am gaming illiterate. For example I had the orginal Nintendo with the game genie and I have still yet to beat Super Mario Brothers. Anyway some may think I'm nuts but I got the Elite because of the HDMI and the fact that right now the HD DVD player is $199 and with the prices on those coming down that should get better. The debate between HD DVD and Blu-Ray is really starting to heat up, I think the only thing that keeps Blu-Ray around right now is the PS3 for the most part, and now sony wants to make it Tivo also, looks like they are trying to give PS3s away here pretty soon.

I have a PS3 and love it. Have not had any problems with it and Blu-ray movies look awesome. There isn't as many games as 360 but I only play one or two at a time. I'm still not bored of the ones I have which are Resistance Fall of Man and Fight Night Round 3. Graphics are great with the HDMI connection and online play is free, no need to pay to get on the network like MS and my PS3 came with integrated Wireless adapter. I can also play some of my PS2 games at higher resolution on the PS3 such as Socom.
Most people here have 360 so PS3 will get no love here.

To the OP, it seems the only difference is HDD size, so save the bucks and get the Pro version. I'm sure there's a way to put a bigger HDD in there if and when you need it.

Well now this is going to get more expensive. The spousal unit doesn't want me to plug it into the 60" HDTV in the family room as she doesn't want me to hog the TV playing games for hours and hours...

Time to cycle out my old 35" Toshiba and buy a HD for the bedroom. I think something in the 40" LCD or Plasma range. CostCo has Visio's and other HDs pretty cheap. Good thing I made a crapload of money this week. Timing is everything.

Yeah, I was leaning towards LCD, but this caught my eye. I'm not going to get worked up about a TV for the bedroom. Does anyone know if I'll need a tuner to hook into Comcast?

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11109761&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|79|2341|3316&N=4001381&Mo=9&pos=1&No=9&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=3314&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10605-Cat2341&topnav=

Or I can loose my mind and replace the 60" Sony with something like this and lug the Sony upstairs.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11233864&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|79|2341|4848&N=4001386&Mo=6&pos=2&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4848&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10605-Cat2341&topnav=

You should get the Comcast HD box to take advantage of the HD capability of the TVs and in that case you would use either HDMI or Component cable connections. Otherwise, a regular Comcast box will work but probably not give you as good a picture through the RF (coax cable) connection.

I've had good luck with the Olevia 537H hooked up to my 360. If you don't need the tuner the 337H comes about $75 cheaper.

How has your online experience been? Im gonna guess that if you did actually go online, what you found is a dismal at best community that play one or two games.

There is a reason most here and elsewhere have the 360. The online play is where it is at.
