New 360 owner with questions.

I broke down and finally bought an Xbox 360 Elite. I also picked up Forza 2 and Rainbow 6 Las Vegas. Both awesome games and the graphics do live up to the hype (I have an LCD HDTV and HDMI plugged in).

Few questions:

1. The unit gets really freakin' hot. I have it in a open shelf with air flow, but it still gets hot. Is this normal?

2. I want to get on Xbox live. What's the easiest way to do it wirelessly? I've got a router set up and everything in my house is wireless already. My Wii came with wifi, but the $450 Xbox didn't. Odd???

3. The kid at Best Buy said gaming with a wireless card is crappy. I'll get a lot of lag. Is this true? I don't want to have Kruz in my crosshairs and miss him because I'm shooting at something that's not there.

4. What other games are "must haves"? I'm open to suggestions except sports games.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

1) Yes they get very hot.

2) The easiest way is to buy the $100 adapter. There is another way to use a standard netgear adapter for about half the price...I just can't do the search at work right now.

3) It's not bad. You won't have any issues.

4) Gears of War, MotoGP 07, Bioshock

Call of Duty 4 coming out soon. Maybe the new MotoGP. You wont see me on much until the crappy weather rolls in.

Thanks for the info, guys.

1. ok, I won't worry about the heat.

2. I'll go with the wirless adapter Keyhole linked me to. Thanks bro, saving Chills some money for new games.

3. If I get lag then I'll look into moving my router and cable modem downstairs. I hope I don't have to do that.

4. Those were the games I was looking at. Excellent suggestions.

Hey Kruz, I'll be the one you guys are killing most of the time. I plan on playing this mostly when the weather is crappy or when its too damn hot outside for me.

X-box online playing

My Kid won't be getting the wireless card until he starts performing some chores.
For Online playing, he took a line and hooked up to our wireless router directly.

I've got a buttload of Cat V, thanks for the offer though guys.

The modem and router are upstairs in the loft while my Xbox, Wii, and PC are downstairs connected to the TV. I guess I could move them downstairs, but I'd have to split the cable connection coming out of the wall. Would I get a decreased signal to the TV or modem doing that?

Get Gears of War Chills, and don't quit it in the first week. You will suck initially, but after three weeks you will be decent online . As for the temp, they run hot. This is the reason many of them are breaking down, just try to put it in an open area. You can turn the system on from the wireless controller, so no need to physically touch the system once the game is in the drive . I have Forza 2 (only played for 5 hours max ), MotoGP, and Rainbow Six Vegas. If you have any of these games, I will play a few rounds with you. You should go to the CLSB Xbox gamertag thread and start adding members, you can do this from any PC that has internet, and see if anyone is playing from a web browser instead of your Xbox.

Have you tested your wireless signal downstairs? If it is good, I would just get a wireless card for the Xbox and get online. If the signal is bad, you may have to drill a hole and route the cable downstairs.

Thanks Chief. I gather you area GoW fan. Just a guess...

Yeah, the signal is "very good" on my PC downstairs and the Xbox will be next to it.

I'll probably just end up moving the modem and router downstairs. No lag and I won't have to buy any more equipment. Still, will there be any signal loss having the modem and the DVR hooked up to the same coax wall outlet?

Pretty much all I play now is Gears of War, when others here get together I will play other games, but always come back to GOW .

I have a Tivo, and modem sharing the same line, and I haven't had any signal issues.
