Blackberry

Hey
I just got a Spring BlackBerry 8830 and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can download free applications and ring tones. I googled for apps yesterday and I didn't really find anything. Also, does anyone know if there is a way to use the GPS without a data plan?

Me? I didn't really like any of Sprints other phones except the BB. I might get a data plan in the future and it is a nice phone. The data plan is like $25 which is too much for me. Anyone know if its possible to use the GPS nav w/o a data plan? I know that the nav gets maps from the internet but if I could download the maps onto the SD card, could I use the GPS?

Dude, that is a big "phone" to carry with no Data Plan - Buck up the $25.00 and use that thing for what it was built to do - That is like having a hooker in your bed and then only playing checkers

I am surprised the phone part even works, I wonder if you are on some GSM network. Older Blackberrys required the data plan because that was how they transmitted phone data also. Verizon won't let you get a Blackberry with out the data plan.

Sprint phones are all CDMA.

I bet the Blackberry impresses a lot of kids on the playground. You can still use data but get ready to be raped. $0.03 per KB may not seem like much but it adds up quick. There was an error in my plan once and I racked up over $100 in data charges in a month. $30+ the one time I let my niece watch TV on my phone.

If you're not going to get a data plan, switch to a simple flip phone.

Yes they are all CDMA but the 8830 is the world phone which is a Triband with GSM.

I have a Pearl without a data plan so don't feel bad, though your BB is more of a business phone than mine is. I just liked the phone and when sitting in front of a computer all day and night, it's hard to justify $20 a month for a data plan. Plus, the wife has a work BB, so if I need internet, I steal her phone. I had it on my phone when I first got it and after 2 months, I cancelled it because I only used it for 5 minutes to see what it was.
