Wireless N Problem

I have the Linksys Wireless N router and a new Dell loaded with wireless N. When I click over available connections I noticed it is connecting at G. I checked the router settings and the network mode is on mixed. When I set it to N only I can not connect. Do I need to change the ghz?

I am running Vista... I checked the computer network settings and everything seemed fine. I will have to leave it at mixed since my Xbox can only connect at G but I wonder why my lap top will not connect at the faster N setting?

What WiFi card does the computer have? The built-in Dell card or did you install a PC card?

I haven't had the greatest luck with Dell equipment and WiFi networks, so good luck with that.

Yeah... fricken Dell. I like the laptop and it is very fast (XPS). I don't notice much of a difference when I hardwire it. I would of kept my wireless G if I thought this would be an issue. I could call Dell or Cisco but I guess that depends if I want to speak to someone from India or Indonesia with a thick accent blurting out difficult to understand computer terms.

Try the 'chat online with a tech' feature on their site. Cuts down on the aggravation from repeating your last name or street address 13 times before throwing something across the room.

And oh yeah, the Networking interface in Vista is probably the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen. And this is coming from someone who's been using Vista since last year and makes a living off of their products. That said, oh how can I count the ways that I loathe Vista Networking.

I have heard many bad things but didnt have a choice, they were only pre-loading Vista at the time. The rep said this was already a newer version but I think she was full of it. I have not had any problems but I read it was a memory whore so I made sure I had at least 2 g's of ram. I kind of like it but do not get involved with the tech aspect of it too much.

It's not bad with 3GB, but I do run a lot of VMs so that's not Vista's fault. It has some good features too, but it just seems like a few things went light-years backwards.
