Wait, how would replication help? If it's deleted in one copy, it gets deleted in others.

So the master initiates the transfer and pulls the data from slaves? And it never gets deleted, only added? What database do you use for that? Or is it a hardware/file based solution?

If one is running something that should be read only to the outside, then there is no reason to have anything touching it from the outside that can write to it; especially a web server. A master should never 'pull' data from a slave.

I don't get it. Say, I have a regular web store, standard 2 or 3 tier app with RDBMS, how can it be read-only? I mean - users need to be able to register, orders need to be placed, etc.. Could you please explain?
