I just read that AMP may be reopening soon. After opening in 2003 and closing in 2004 due to noise complaints (even though it borders an Air Force base) it looks like they will be able to open with some new decible restrictions. Only other track around is PIR but that kinda sucks. Couple other tracks in the 150-200 mile range. But this one is about 25 miles away from the house I'm buying.

There were no "noise complaints" the guy flat out committed fraud on his zoning application. That'll piss some people off and he was a jackass for doing it and got what he deserved IMO.

Just so ya know.. he said it was a private use facility. First weekend was an SCCA or NASA (ICRW) spectator race weekend. That was dumber than a box of hammers.

We had a RC51 trackday there before it closed. Its a nice track but sadley the owner is a dumbass. LOL Rumors of it opening back up have been rampant for they last year. Hopefully it does reopen.

If it does open back up. I may have a nice house that I could rent out that is 10 miles from the track. Anyone know if they ran Supermoto there before?

I hope it re-opens under proper zoning, sure sucks to have a track and then lose it.

what a mess
I had never heard of that park... All the articles I see point to noise complaints not zoning - looks like he one his injunction in regards to due process not being followed when they pulled his permit?

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepu...4wvrace24.html
http://www.azcentral.com/community/s...ceway0203.html
admittedly I am not involved - just went to look at the track and saw a couple articles.

There is this one thing about it being commercial, but I don't know how much stock I'd lay in that - I typed an explanation but... it seems obvious

Quote:
Track officials contend the original permit included no restrictions on noise levels and say the Board of Supervisors yanked the permit based largely on noise complaints.

County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox was surprised by the court's decision.

She said track officials verbally committed to keep the noise level in check and promised not to run commercial vehicles.

"He (Maloney) violated everything possible. I was extremely disappointed," by the court's decision, she said.

"It was never intended to be a big commercial track."
Quote:
Officials with Arizona Motorsports Park say the noise is no worse than that from Luke, the nation's largest F-16 training base.

Maloney's lawyer, John DeWulf, said the track hopes to reopen. Maloney declined to be interviewed and directed comment to his lawyer.

"Sound issues are very personalized," DeWulf said. "Some sound affects some people and not others."

Litchfield Park resident Wayne Lutz said Monday that the constant hum from the track was over the top.

"It's just a . . . community nuisance," he said. "It's a constant noise. It goes on and on and on. . . . They compare it with Luke Air Force Base. I'm proud to have Luke Air Force Base here. This isn't about Luke. If I had a problem with Luke, we'd go after Luke. We have a problem with this . . . racetrack."
I imagine the fact that if this guy went to the air force and tried to tell them to hush up they'd just laugh at him might have something to do with it too. The Air Force training base probably makes twice as much noise - but if you can't fight city hall you certainly cant fight the air force

That is really good news for folks who had only Firebird to ride at. AMP is a sweet layout.... You're going to have to send a bike out there Steve and buy SW Airlines tickets in bulk for the winter!!

With how rich the guy is and how much money he has spent already... Couldn't he put up some kind of sound barrier around the facility? Either build up earth around it or some kind of wall you see on the side of interstates.

An F15 fighter jet is 10 times louder than any race bike or race car. It sounds like there's just a bunch of grumpy old farts in that area who have nothing else to do but complain about shit.

My southwest reward miles are locked and loaded. Who is trailering my bike out there?

Steve find out about Supermoto. I will load up everyone's bikes and take them down for the winter. I have a two car garage and 3 bedrooms + space to house people. It could be epic.

As far as sound I call BS on that one the f16s wake you up at the crack of dawn. The sound bounces off the mountains. I think its the old people in Sun City who hate fun.

3 bedroom and 2 car garage here as well. Open invitation for all the track peeps. Hopefully I should be out there by the end of Sept/early Oct.

I have a pool too, so Steve, leave your phone at home.

It's home to Bondurant, runs CCS races, and hosts trackdays organized by Aztrackday.com and AZTracktime.com.

Yeah, I was just reading about the track. I was only there once for some dirt races about 10 years ago. Cool.

Time to start saving for another gixxer.
