Who accepts tires?

I know GSN accepts tires at STT events but where else can one dispose of tires? I've got a nice stack in the garage and need them gone.

I was reading on the illinois epa site about tire retailers must accept the same number of tires as they sold, so if you don't buy tires from them, they are not required to accept them. I haven't gone around asking if any of them would take them yet, but legally it looks like they don't have to.

When I was a service manager for pep boys, it was very common to have piles of used tires and buckets of antifreeze waiting for me in the morning.

I throw one away a week. The garbage man will not take 2. I don't get ahead of my pile until sometime mid winter usually.

Finally got someone at waste management that knew what the deal was (took 3 people). You can throw them away but each needs a sticker ($3.24 each in woodridge), but you have to call the day before and let them know you're tossing tires.

The problem is even the motorcycle shops have to PAY to dispose of them....I know I did....going rate was usually $3 a piece.

Yeah I don't mind paying to dispose of them, but when I was searching for how to dispose of used tires all the info I found for tossing said "Tires not accepted" so I was getting a little frustrated like well then where the hell are you supposed to toss them if none of the recycling places will take them and tire shops only accept them if you buy tires from them. Tons of websites about not dumping tires, but nothing about where to actually put them

Even waste managements website did not really provide much info on tires, and calling lead to a pass around until I found someone that actually knew their own procedures for tires. Seems kind of crazy if they are so concerned about tire dumping that they wouldn't offer an easy way to properly dispose of them.

Got a sawsall? If so cut them in small chunks and trash bag them with the rest of the trash if you cant find a place to send them to the recyclers. Friend did this with some 40" superswampers that NO ONE in the area would take. Even offered to pay them and yet they said no.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.
