E-Boz on a Ducati?!! Love the silly season!

Manager Denies That Eric Bostrom Is Considering U.S. Superbike Deal With Ducati

Copyright 2003, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

Sources close to the deal say that Eric Bostrom considered riding a Superbike fielded by Ducati Austin in the 2004 AMA Superbike series.

Kawasaki's decision to not run a Superbike in the 2004 AMA series is said to have been a factor in the opening of negotiations involving Bostrom and Ducati. Details of Bostrom's contract with Kawasaki, and whether or not the contract specifically refers to the Superbike class, are unknown.

But Eric Bostrom's manager, Norm Viano, denied the report.

In an e-mail to Roadracing World, Viano said the report was, "Completely untrue. We're happy with Kawasaki and are, in fact, in a two-year deal with them. Not sure where you are getting that info."

Despite the denial, an involved sponsor insists negotiations for the 2004 season took place, and sources at Kawasaki say that the company was quietly looking at possible replacement riders last week.

damn!

Kawi has this brand spankin' new ZX-10, which EBoz is raving about, only to decide NOT to run it?

They are screwing EBoz. That's the one crown left for him to take.

Bombshell: KAWASAKI AND BOSTROM SPLIT
by dean adams
Friday, November 14, 2003

This just in from Kawasaki USA:

KAWASAKI TO FOCUS ON SUPERSTOCK AND SUPERSPORT IN 2004

Company releases Eric Bostrom to pursue personal career objectives

IRVINE, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2003)-Bruce Stjernstrom, director of professional racing for Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., today announced the company's decision not to contest the 2004 AMA Superbike Series, and instead to concentrate on the Superstock and Supersport series races. At the same time, he indicated that Kawasaki would release the company's Superbike racer, Eric Bostrom, to pursue his personal career objectives.

"Our decision is to put our team effort behind the Superstock and Supersport series at a time when the AMA's Superbike series is being restructured," said Stjernstrom. "Eric's contributions to the team and Kawasaki have been enormous over the past several years, and there's just no way we could stand in his way once the decision was made to not race the Superbike series," he continued.

According to Stjernstrom, team management discussed the company's 2004 plans with Bostrom and a mutual agreement was reached, which the director of racing says "is a prime example of the respect that exists between the two parties."

"Kawasaki certainly wishes only the best for Eric in the future," concluded Stjernstrom.

Wow. Well I hope Austin gets their act together and I hope they get full factory support. They need a bike that is competitive and lasts the entire race. Defeating Matt on the Suzuki will be no small feat.

Some say the Superbike class is dying. I've heard Yamaha isn't planning to participate either.

I thought I read somewhere this is because of the new Superbike rules and something to do with the throttle bodies that had everyone nuts... It's just crazy Kawi and Yamaha both have a brand new liter bike and they don't want to run in SB??

edit: new rules are here

I think he is the most talented rider in the ama superbike class (my opinion) always running upfront with inferior product. not only that but he is by far the most exciting rider to watch. im tired of kawasakis half ass attempt to race, time to move on to Honda for me. go miguel!!!!! whoo hooo!!

I thought Ruben Xaus was running for Ducati Austin??

This sucks though, no Kawi in 2004? The f'n bean counters must have liked the budget when EBoz was injured and they weren't riding.

Xaus, Eboz, or Gobert? You be the judge:

"I can tell you it's going to be a really good surprise. You will get some surprise in a short time. It will be a good surprise for any Ducati fan in the US. We want to be there and be at the proper level, so what we can say for sure is that you will see a very fast 999 next year in the AMA championship."

edit: Jim's getting a Ducati Can I ride it?

Presumably, Ducati Austin will continue to run the team, but with factory engineers on hand from Corse.
That's the only way it's going to be competitive! It should be interesting. It was obvious that Ducati was serious this past year when they lobbied the AMA for Superbike rules that favor twins. Will it be enough?

There have been a couple on e-bay. Local shop had a lowsided one in awhile back. Dang, wish I could have purchased that. Economy sucks...

I wish I could both afford a bike like that and justify it. I saw a bunch of 999s and 749s on the track this season. I didn't like them much until I saw them up close and on the track. Pretty cool, most everything I like in a bike. But seriously, what do you do with a bike like that? I couldn't afford it and I couldn't afford to fix it after I through it down the track. Besides, I could buy 3 600rrs for the same money.

But I REALLY think YOU should buy one.
