Fasttrax Endurance Racing 2004

The time has come again to prepare for the upcoming endurance season. Once again I'm looking to gather a team to contest the Fasttrax endurace series(www.fastone.com) , that means riders, bikes, and pit crew/scorers are needed. 2003 went pretty well for our first season, of the 3 events we competed we finished 5th, 7th and 1st in class. For 2004 we're hoping to attend more events and use our experience gained to improve our results and contest the Lightweight Championship.

The Plan: The general idea here is to gather interested people and figure out just how many riders/crew we've got, what bikes/hardware we have availible, costs, schedules.....ect I have a feeling we might have more than the 3-5 riders that rode last year so we might have to look at how we could best run a multi-bike team.

PM me for details(date-time & location) and please, if your not seriously interested in participating don't waste my time.

Mark

I'd like to get into this with you, I have the $ and the bikes (2 SV's) but I'm curious how we are all going to race. Are we allowed to use our own bikes, or will we be sharing a bike.

What happens when you're racing my bike and you crash it and break it? Or if I'm racing your bike and I crash it, I would feal like shit borrowing someones bike and crash it.

What about suspension set ups on a bike we are all using. Different weight of riders?

I know the rule you burn it you buy it.

What about tires and brakes and all that if we are sharing a bike.

It just seams kind of fishy to me about joining a team where I don't know the people real well.

Give me some more info please,

Thanks

Nick

I'll try to address your questions one-by-one:

Q:"Are we allowed to use our own bikes, or will we be sharing a bike?"

A: We share a bike(s). The team must finish the race on the same bike frame it starts the race on, this isn't tag team racing...

Q: "What happens when you're racing my bike and you crash it and break it?"

A: I would try to peel myself off the pavement, get a change of underwear, then we could discuss what it would take to get the bike rideable again.

Q: "What about tires and brakes and all that if we are sharing a bike?"

A: Consumables (tires/gas/race entry...ect) would be costs split among the team... although since brake pads last a long time (for me anyway) I've never really seen these as comsumables though....

Q:What about suspension set ups on a bike we are all using. Different weight of riders?

A: Quick pitstops don't allow much time for suspension fiddling, last season we all ran the same setup without trouble.

I know the idea of crashing somebody elses bike is bad....and the idea of someone else crashing your bike isn't great either. But in reality most crashes are not expensive, a $10 brake lever or a footpeg often take the brunt. Plus my little hawk is a tough little pig, just ask Kneeinpain

True enough. I slid Mark's bike off the track in the hairpin at Grattan. I thought, "Jeez, I'm pretty much o.k. but the bike is wrecked". Now what? Long story short, I was able to get it going and back into the pits with the right clip-on caked in mud, pointing directly forward. Mark put it back in place, pulled the exhaust can away from the swingarm, and I rode the snot out of it for the rest of the day. You could drop a Honda Hawk from a C-130 transport at 25,000 feet, dust it off and ride away. It's a tough bike.

That thing has an exhaust? Could have fooled me!

I'd be up for pit help, but I don't think the license will be through by race season. That and I'm slow.

Does Fasttrax recognize Learning Curves or Team Visionsports?

If I can't be the fastest I CAN be the loudest Its not that bad is it?

If you've done LC or Visionsports school getting your Fasttrax ticket shouldn't be an issue.

And remember, endurance racing is all about keeping the bike upright and going round-and-round. We are scored on laps completed so I'd rather be teamed with a slow guy than a fast crasher.

fug it, I'm in. If you guys/gals have room for me that is.

The SV's a tough little mule to. It isn't like I haven't crashed either. and so far nothing major, she's held up pretty good. The worst so far has been a cracked radiator. It sounds like fun and I hear we get alot of trac time as well.

I'm slowly collecting spares so I'm pretty much ready.

The way things are going to work out with racing this summer is if I can make it on a weekend I can, if I can't, I can't. Depends on the job and if I'm out of town or not. I usually know 2 weeks ahead of time if I'll be traveling.

Mark, are you racing CCS this year to?

What tracks do we run at?

Is there cash payout if we run good?

Whats the chances of us running good?

I am very interested in joining and aiding my services where necessary. I only have the rc-51 as a race bike now though. I am willing to help and do what ever possible, just let me know what you are planning so I can get all my plans together since I work and go to school. I am interested though!

I'm not planning on doing a whole lot of CCS stuff, maybe a BHF race here-or-there.

Grattan and Nelson Ledges

No cash payouts

If we can do all the rounds and not crash or DNS I think our results would be good.

Mark, I could be a backup rider/bike combo but will depend on scheduling more than anything. Nelsons ledge is pretty much out of the picture so if I can connect with you guys for a Grattan round, that would work.

And you better be doing some CCS races, because I know you've been doing work to that hawk and trying to keep it secret. But nothing will help that honda come next season.
