Official MGP Welkom hype thread

Dennis Noyes wrote another excellent overview of the upcomming MGP season:

Rossi vs. the Red Army

part 2

Enjoyed what he had to say about CE in part 1 and I think his assessment of Hayden is right on in part 2.

My predictions for this weekend:

1st Colin
2nd Sete
3rd Hayden

Rossi will crash out after looking very strong and Curtis will turn some heads. You heard it here first

Massimiliano Biaggi will be 2004 MotoGP World Champion. You heard it here first. Rossi will still manage to finish the season in second.

I think it will be a close fight with Rossi, Colin and Gibernau. I'm not sure unless Hayden gets lucky he has the stuff ot consitently win yet. Colin does. And Rossi is still hands down the best rider, but has an inferior machine ot compensate for.

I hate Biaggi... he crashes and runs off enough to keep him out of contention. He doesn't know how to ride on his "bad" days. IF his bike isn't perfect, he gives up.

I'll go with

Rossi
Colin
Hayden
Gibernau
Biaggi
Barros
Caperossi
The other Yamaha
Bayliss
Roberts Jr.
Hodson
Xaus
Hopkins
A Kawi
An Aprillia
A Kawi

Outstanding competition overall this season. I think at most tracks the field will be all within 2 seconds and the top ten within 0.5 seconds... which is incredible.
An Aprilla

Ummm... no that would be Roberts Jr. not Biaggi. Funny how Biaggi who doesn't know how to ride on his bad days finished 3rd in the championship last year and 2nd the year before. Who's the other Yamaha? Checa, Melandri or Abe?

Like I even noticed what KJ was doing the last 2 seasons. I don't pay attention after 10th place.

Yes and WAYYYYY out of championship contention in a distant 3rd after a DNF and several poor finishes off the podium. Biaggi was a contender for about half the season last year then had a DNF and a couple other finsihes out of the top five if I remeber right. Gibernau was far more consistent. The year bofore doesn't count because the Honda had such a dramatic advantage, even Rossi couldn't have won the champoinship on a '02 Yamaha... it's couldn't put down the power it had and had a bad front end feedback (biaggi and checa both lost the fronts on several occasions in low speed turns).

Trivia... when was the last race Rossi finished and was not on the podium???

Cherry.. Fair enough. I agree that Biaggi had an off year last year but you would have to be a fool to think he would not be in contention for the championship this year. This may be his only chance and he knows it. And to answer your trivia.. I believe it was in 2002 at the Czech GP.

Honda will reward results with support regardless of whether the rider is an HRC factory man or a rider from a satellite team.

It will be interesting to hear what he says about Ducati in part four. He is a big fan of Xaus.

Hey guys,
What do they mean when they refer to Biaggi's 250 riding style ?
that he doesn't slide around a lot ?

(I"m ready for 4 of 5)

I love this stuff

Just means that he rides the front wheel really hard. Lots of corner speed unlike the big bike style of squaring off the corners and getting monstrous drives out.

unofficial snagged from another board

-----------------------
Qualifying was crazy today. Nothing happened for 50 minutes. It seemed no one was chasing pole position. All of a sudden, Nakano puts the Kawasaki on pole with nine minutes to go. Two minutes later, Gibernau takes it. Then Biaggi, Hayden and Rossi take it back. Biaggi had a shot at the end, but he either was satisfied with his position or he didn't know Rossi had just taken it back from him. He crossed the finish line a few seconds before the checkered flag came out so he had another lap to get the pole position but he went for a nice crossed-up wheelie instead, then slowed down. Nicky Hayden gave me a good scare. He was still 13th with about five minutes to go.

Curtis was merely a fill in while Hopkins was injured.

Right now the Official MotoGP site is bogged down.... otherwise I'd be abel to find out who won.
