gearing question

Jeff with a J keeps spanking me on the straight away out of turn 7 at BHF. so I want quicker accelertaion.

i already have droped 1 tooth on the front (16 to 15) I need a tad more , so I'm going to up my rear (current 45) will 1 tooth make any differance or should I go up to a 47? (i already know 1 down in front is like 2 up in the rear)

the reason I'm asking is LP is out of stock on the gsxr 47 tooth but carry the 46. I want it for the June 27 NESBA day so should i wait and get spanked again or just get the 46?

oh they also have a 48 in stock too, but think that may be too much right?

SO my true question is: How much differance does each tooth make on a rear sprocket?

carry more corner speed!

and i wouldnt bother just going up 1 tooth on the rear. down one in front is closer to up 3 in the rear. I'd go up 2 in the rear if you wanted to really see a difference.

corner speed is no the issue, i gots all dat!!!!! its the drive out, if we are side by side we start out fine but once we hit 1/4 way down he starts pulling away

So gearing isnt the issue if he is pulling away towards top end, its a hp to weight ratio, and hes going to beat you every time with that one!

Couple things to remember.... lower gearing will give you more tractive force (more leverage) to accelrate harder on the pavement, but it's won't help you much at higher speeds.

second, you might want ot get someone wiht a stop watch to see if he is in fact pulling away from you. Don;t foget abotu the "time to distance" effect. if you are 10' behind the Jeff's front wheel at 50mph, then you will be 20' behind him at 100mph...yet you are perfectly matchign his accelration. If you actaully "keep up" with someone on the straight, you are out accelrating them.

This effect also works the opposite way, if you are only 10' behind the front wheel of a rider at 130mph going tinto turn 1 at BHF and you slow ot 75mph, you will only be 5' behind him unless you out brake him. This is why it's easy ot pass on the brakes. You aren't actaully out braking someone, you are simply using their draft ot close the gap, then naturally pulling up along side them on the brakes.

Make sense? IF you corner speeds are the same, and yoru lap time are teh saem...changces are you aren't actully getting out accerated o nteh straights.

simple thing. we both accelerate from the same spot and he ends up at the end of the straight away in front by a decent margin. it not a top speed issue as BHF you never reach top speed. call it wait to hp ratio or whatever....i don't care if he's in 4th gear and I goota be in 5th gear, i just wanna beat him down the straight away. plus i'm eather short shifting everywhere to keep from bouching of the rev limiter at BHF. I need a better ratio, whatever you say about Hp and blah blah...I need to know what will help the drive out of corners better. a small gear change (1 tooth) or a lrager one (2 0r 3 teeth).

plus it don't help i weight about 40 lbs more than that guy

he's about .5 to 1 sec a lap faster than me, I usually catch him in the carosel and bus stop (slower sections but he just plain beats me out of 6 and 7. i catch him under braking and in corners as i do carry more corner speed tham him. he simply out accelerates me!!!!!
