WERA 6 Hour Endurance at Grattan. LONG

SMP Racing took a fouth place finish in Middleweight superbike on a 4and6 Performance built Yamaha R6 in supersport trim. SMP Racing made a last minute decision to go to Grattan raceway due to trailer troubles and not preparing for the weekend. We left Fridat night at 11 o'clock and arrived at 4:30 am and proceeded to sleep to 8:00 am. This was bad because we still had to get the bike together, register and get tires. Needless to say we missed our practice and got the bike together at 3rd call for the endurance race. We also had to endure rivers running across the track due to heavy rains on Saturday. SMP racing currently sat in 5th place in MWSB overall at the start of the race and needed a good point gaing weekend to stay ahead of a couple of hard charging teams. We got what we asked for and should hope fully be sittting in a higher standing when points are posted. The race went great for the first 3 hours we were consistent and doing well. Heading into the 4th hour we caught and passed the team in 3rd place and were pulling away. We pulled in for a pit stop and my team mate Mike Schallcross handed over the bike to me for my second stint(Our third teammate did not show). I was feeling great intill the 3rd lap when I missed my turning reference and rode of the track into the thick ass mud and crashed. In the time it took to get back to pits and repair we lost considerable time and were regulated to 7th or 8th place in class. Once mounted on the bike again I pushed hard and made up 2 positions trying to make up for my mistake. After 1 hour on the bike i handed the bike over to my teamate and off he went. He kicked major ass and one team ahead of us blew up and when it was all over we had our team a 4th place finish. This was our best performance of the year considering we got 4 hours of sleep and no practice and have never ridden Grattan before Saturday. SMP Racing hopes the confidence gained will help us out when we travel to Summit Point in 2 weeks for the next round.I would like to thank all our sponsors especially 4and6 performance for all there help this year, the bikes are working and running awesome. SMP Racing will give another race report in 2 weeks. Thanks to CLSB for the forum for my team to post on!!!

I *thought* I saw Summit on the WERA schedule.

That is a cool track. Remember to stay left up the hill between 3 and 4... otherwise you get airborne (not good.)

Watch out for the cicadas.
