Pics of the damage from my get-off on the 12th

Pretty light damage. The helmet took the brunt of the fall. My leathers are scratched, but nothing tore. I consider myself lucky.

Here's the left side of my bike. That little piece of fiberglass missing in front of the slider is the only damage.

And here's the tire. I shouldn't have been riding on it. No worries, I've already got a new 180 DC put on.

Yet another testimony to Arai helmets, I'm telling you after my crash into the wall last year at Putnam I won't wear anything but an Arai on the track. People can say what they want to about them just being name brand, but they protect you plain and simple.

Did you even have a headache or anything after that?

Dave, you're right. That impact might have cracked a cheaper helmet. Arai's are expensive but you really are protected.

John, do you think I can wear this helmet again? I don't have time to send it back before the next NESBA day.

Depends, is it all from sliding on the ground, or did your head bounce a couple of times.

My thoughts, if you bounced just get a new lid. It's really not worth taking the gamble.

for a highside I can not believe how little damage there is. i think you should get another helmet. you probably wont feel confident wearing it without it being inspected. imo

Okay, good points all. I won't wear the helmet again. It'll make a nice showpiece. Does anyone know where I can find the same helmet for a resonable price? size small.

Yeah, the damage is very minimal. I don't think it was a full high-side. As the bike launched me it must have stayed upright and continued riding by iteself. The damage to the windscreen was likely caused by me when I went up and over.

I rolled through the ebay link and did not find your exact helmet but there are some pretty good deals. The other link is North America Arai on line.

Thanks, Wayne. I checked eBay, too and up until yesterday they had my helmet. I wrote the guy to see if he had another one.

I'll check the other link you posted. Thanks.

Thats a great helmet to show to people that don't wear helmets.

You would have been dead if you didn't have a helmet on in that situation.

Did the bike go end over end?

Yeah, I'll use it as an example to those dumbasses I know who don't wear helmets.

No, the bike didn't go end over end. I caught it as it was about to flip, I think. I remember the back end sliding out, then catching and as it was about to highside I sorta caught it. I got flipped, but the bike stayed on two wheels.

Chills, I agree I wouldn't bother to put that helmet on agian without them testing it. However you can look, if you take the liner out and look at the foam on the inside of the helmet you will probably see what look like spiderwebs on the inside. That means the helmet took it's impact and it is done. Keep it, put it on a shelf and get another one for sure.

I took the liner out this morning and looked around the impact site on the foam. No spiderwebs. I didn't see anything. The inside shows no sign of damage. When I hit the pavement it was a glancing blow, then I rolled. Maybe the helmet is good, but like others have said, I need to send it to Arai to let them check it out. I just don't have the time right now.

Hey Chris - I wouldn't be surprised if the Helmet is OK - But I would NEVER bet (my Head) on it.

I just bought a new lid the other day - in part becaue of your crash. My HJC is not the best brand (& it was fitting a little loose). I took a look at your Helmet when we were at the track .... now I have a nice new SHOEI helmet !

as the others have said

chills--
dont wear it, just becasue the outer shell is ok does not mean the inner poly styrene is not compressed which would create a weak point and not provide the right protection. I used to buy helmets as part of my job and I know motorcycle helmets are not considered multi impact. play it safe a new helmet hjc for example is way better than a used helmet. the difference is in the fit and vent systems not the basic save your head stuff. also better composites are lighter and more expensive. another reason for the diff in cost.

Thanks, Whit. I'm not going to wear it. I have a spare HJC that I can wear.

Thanks TeamGoFast for all the offers to borrow your helmets.

I think I found one on eBay that will work. I just hope the price doesn't get too high.

Chills,
I sent my helmet back to Arai after a get off. I did a face plant though and just cracked the face shield. They got it back to me in 3 weeks. I don't know about your helmet though. It if Arai checks it out it might make a good back up helmet. Here's the Arai info.

Chills, be careful of Arai helmets on eBay. There was someone on the CCS forum that bought one and found out later that it was a knock off. He actually contacted Arai about it, and they sent him a true Arai if he would send them the knock off. They were trying to figure out who was making them.

Just check with the seller and get something that tells you it's a true one. I think the guy that this happened to said that the inside of the helmet on a tag or something it actually said the name of the real manufacturere. I don't remember all the details but you could search over on racemotorcycles.com and find the thread.
