Countdown to Barber... T-minus 20 hours!

Leaving tomorrow for Barber w/ Ernie and Pol. Can't wait to go. Everybody says that's the best track in the US. Unfortunately it will take most of tomorrow to get there.

For those who have been there, any last words of advice about the track or Birmingham?

You're gonna love the track and the facility. We had a blast down there in March.

Did you guys get a trailer for the trip?

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Bring a generator... there is no electricity in the paddock.

If you bring a pit bike, it will need to be "street-legal" with plates, etc. if you plan on riding it beyond the paddock area - and you'll need a helmet. The road around the track is actually City of Birmingham proper (and AL is a helmet-law state).

Take time to visit the museum... it's well worth the $10 and you'll need around 3 hours.

There's a Wal-Mart and a whole bunch of stuff (including a Mexican restaurant that's supposed to be pretty decent) if you get back on I-20 and head one exit EAST of the track.

And I'm assuming Pol is gonna follow in his Element?

Cool. I wish I were going with you guys. Its not a bad drive either, especially once you get to TN.

Sounds like a nice trip, good luck out there.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Barber is great time. Should be cooler temp wise from when we went down there. We went the first of July and it was in the low nineties and you get to sit on hot black top to boot.
