My First Track Day

You have all been there and now it is my turn...

After completing the Flat 4 Tour, I headed to Beloit for the Learning Curves Ladies Only Street/Track Riding Class at BHF.

Rick and Jason of LCR were wonderful. Fortunately there were 3 women (with me having the least amount of experience by far) to 2 instructors. It comprised of 6 classroom sessions and 5 track sessions. Also, Motovid was a great help as they taped us and allowed us to watch the video after each session to see our mistakes. They also provided great feedback. I purchased their video (which consisted of all five sessions) to use as a learning tool.

I hated my first track session! Common sense kicked in and I was asking myself WTF am I doing? Why would you want to take a corner that fast and risk wrecking your bike? Fortunately by the second session the fear of wrecking had ceased and confidence in myself and my bike had evolved. I greatly enjoyed the remainder of the day.

What a difference it makes when you hang off the bike and look through the corners! My favorite corners were 3, 4, 5 and 6 whereas my least favorite were 3A (AKA 3D) and 7. The chicken strips are almost gone on the tires and my lap times at the end of the day were 1:45.

While riding home (alot of time to think when riding the highway) common sense kicked in again and I laughed as I recalled my day.

This class catered to novice and veterans alike and I would definitely recommend it to others. I will take this class again in the future.

Thanks for letting me share,
Michelle

Sounds like you had fun. Glad to hear more and more people are getting into the sport. Remember NOT to try that stuff on the street.

That's awesome Michelle! Its great to hear you had so much fun at BHF. I hope to see both yours and Troy's bikes at the next track day.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I just went though pretty much the same thing last week (https://chicagolandsportbikes.com/for...threadid=20786), and it's funny how the first few laps are bit scary.

That's cool that you could watch your videos after each session; Edge should do that as well. Motovod was there, but none of their servies were included in the school fees.

Sweet. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Don't forget that you will need to inspect your bike and gear a little more frequently now (especially your oil).

Good Luck

Motovid had a pretty good deal going on for the LCR school last time they did it. It was $40 for every track session in the school on one DVD. Since they usually followed everybody for a couple laps a session, it was guaranteed to have lots of footage of you.

I was taking the SuperDave school while the LCR school was going on at the previous one. Were you the only one on a sportbike?
