Looming Bombshell: Nick Hayden Signed With Yamaha MotoGP To Replace Max Biaggi?

By the looks of things, it is growing ever more unlikely by the day that Nick Hayden will re-sign with American Honda to race AMA Superbike in 2003.

Hayden was known to be under a deadline by Honda to sign his current contract, one that sources say ended ten days ago (but may have been extended). Sources in the negotiations say that Hayden's choices of rides for 2003 had come down to Honda and Yamaha GP.

Several sources in and around American Honda said yesterday that all looked lost in terms of re-signing Hayden (no other way to look at it than AmHon went the full nine yards to appease and sign Hayden) and that they had "lost him to Yamaha MotoGP".

A call to Hayden's manager this AM to obtain comment was unsuccessful. It seems his management team has made a quick trip to Europe. Hmmmm.

Hey, that's Old news.

(I had just posted the same thing... I deleted mine)

I say good. I guess. I mean I like him and all, but I'm all for seeing some new talent rise to the top. That is, see some new people riding the superbikes. Now if the whiner starts winning again, that will be boring. What about Bostrom, will he be back? Hmmm, I hate to see the talent go to Europe but...

I'm with you Jack - good for him. I like the AMA a lot (prolly just cause I know the racer personalities a lot better and have met/watched them in person) but I'd rather see the real fast guys (Erik and Nicky) tearing it up on GP tracks with blueflags and top-notch machines then the AMA scene.

If John Hopkins can get in the points in ever race except the last one then Nicky is top 3. So is Eric. And good riddance to Max Biaggi - ever read what Hopper wrote about him in RRW? And you think Mladin is bad...

Yeah, I read that too! Too funny about drawing a mustache on his picture and him getting upset about it! Hopkins, good for him. I have to admit, I've missed almost every race this year that wasn't local. Weird, I haven't seen much AMA, and I've seen 1 or 2 each of WSB and GP. It's great stuff, just don't know where the time goes...
