Racers Down

Attention racers and fellow Nesbians...

Shawn McCullough (CR and "Polar Optics Guy") had a bad crash in T2 at Blackhawk on Monday. He's in ICU at Rockford Memorial (Room 309-D). His injuries were pretty extensive (punctured lung, several broken bones, spleen), so please keep him in your prayers.

Kris Younger was also transported out of Blackhawk following an incident in 6A, with multiple fractured vertebrae. He is recovering from surgery earlier in the week. He is also at RMH, in room 206-D.

Please keep these guys in your prayers.

How aweful. They will both be in my prayers.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Any news on how they crashed? Sounds like some nasty wrecks.

Hoping for a fast and full recovery!

Get well guys. Jim Schaefer, a nice SV riding guy, also went down on Friday. He went to the hospital with a minor concussion and dehydration. He was back at the track on Sunday.

Also, Shawn's crash was directly because the sidestand on the bike he was borrowing was down. Obviously, the safety kill switch was bypassed. If you are going to run with a sidestand, keep the safety switch enabled. Or wire tie it or just remove it. I've seen a couple people on track days go flying out of the pits with the sidestands down.

I was not there Monday.

Apparently (like Grover said), Shawn was on a borrowed bike... headed out on the track with the sidestand down. Cornerworker in T1 tried desperately to get his attention... but when he flicked it into 2... well, disaster struck.

Get well soon.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

and who would have caught a bypassed sidestand switch, no way. There is no reason to bypass it unless you are running without the stand.

Right, I don't think you should run a bike on the track with a side stand.

CRAP - Typical BBS misinformation. I feel the critical and more important part is that Shawn is alive and recovering. I see no reason to point blame with anyone, but since you took it upon yourself to blame NESBA for a situation that absolutely had nothing to do with the NESBA organization other than that Shawn is a Control Rider and friend - I would encourage you to take some time to gather all of the facts with any future subjects that you find yourself responding to.

Get well soon Chainsaw.
