Gingerman, 10/9, 10/10??

Okay, next weekend is Gingerman, the final race weekend for CCS. Sunday is the racing, Saturday is the track day. These track days are generally pretty light in the grid, cheap ($75 for licensed racers, $120 or so without).

Barring really bad weather, I plan on doing both. Trackday and probably 3 races..LWSS, LWGP, and Supetwins. With the light grids expected, if I manage to beat a couple people, I'll probably land a 5th.

CCS has to have something screwed up in the points, I'm in 8th place, higher than Dave and I've never got higher than 9th in that class.

Anybody else showing?

Last I heard, Kimmy and Nick (Grasshopper) plan on racing.

Yeah, it's probably going to be a bit chilly for camping. South Haven is only about 10 miles from there, dozens of hotels.

We'll see. Doubt I'll be racing Sunday, since I've already committed to work the bridge. Might bring John and the rig out to tune/test the new bike on Saturday, depending on whether any of my suspension guys will be there.

I plan on camping at the track both nights, regardless.

Hmm.... $75 for a trackday at Gingerman?

How can I go about getting to these events next year? What license do I need to get?

'The license' is a CCS race license. They have a special LP trackday only license, which is pretty mucha $25 membership fee which enables you to ride for $115. At Blackhawk race weekends, the LP trackdays are held on Monday. Due to that, it's a small grid.

When I did this trackday at Gingerman last time, there was three bikes circulating around. Even though I was 'supposed' to do the amateur race group, that one had about 25 bikes. I went to the 'slower' one and got the track pretty much to myself.

Nothing screwed up man, let this be a lesson that consistant finishes equal a better place than good finishes mixed with no finishes.

I've crashed out of LWGP once, which caused me to miss a LWSB race. Also crashed out of a LWSS race. Then got disqualified from one LWSS race, then missed a LWSS and a LWSB race I think at Gingerman due to that electrical gremlin.

Don't sell yourself short, you've earned those positions by riding well, and always finishing regardless of what else happened.

Fast..kinda. It's a car track pretty much. Several of the corners are deceiving with decreasing radii. You can pretty much just show up, pay up and ride. If you prep the bike per NESBA (but with a safety wired sidestand), you will pass tech to ride.

check the CCS races website.
http://www.formulausa.com/shows/pdf/...Oct%20Schedule

The track day would be 'group 3, street and sport riders'.

Thanks! I'm assuming the schedules run just like any other track day, 9am till 5pm with lunch at noon and registration/tech before 8am and 20 min sessions?

Also... where can I find information about trackside vendors that are going to be there so I can find someone to change out my tires on the track? Is there usually someone there?

That's about right. Tire changing folks should be there. I've got the email address for michelin, some others have the Dunlop tire guy contact info. There should be at least two tire vendors there.

I dun see why anyone would flame ya...

the price is $125 plus a $25 membership from what I gather.

The manual is here: formulausa.com/sportrider

That basically tells you what you need to prep. It's simple enough, you don't need to saftey wire anything, just unplug your light bulbs, tape up any glass on the bike and remove mirrors.

Make sure your bike is in good order, no leaks or anything. Check your fork seals to make sure they aren't leaking (its something really easy to miss if you arent looking for it), blah blah...

So far as gear, I think the general requirements are:

SNELL rated helmet no more than 5 years old
gauntlet style gloves
1 piece or 2 piece suit that zips together
riding boots.

If there's any gear you are missing or anything like that you can probably borrow some of mine, I have practically 2 of everything. I'm 90% sure I'm going to this.

And yes, they do have a beginner session for us track newbies :P

Bring a back protector if you have one (or two). While I don't think they are required, it's always a good idea to wear it.

I'll be there unless the weather report shows rain, I'll be there. Also, you cannot camp/pit near the electrical boxes (parallel to hot pit lane) unless you pony up the $20 for electrical (whether or not you use it). And if you thought they checked it a lot at Blackhawk..

*bump* I'll probably be rolling in sometime on Saturday late morning. I'll try and sweet talk my way into riding in the afternoon. Hell, for an open track I'll pony up the $75 for the track day, even if I get a little more than half of it.
