Ouch

So DanO and I sat down last night, to start putting together a race resume and sponsorship packet. Part of this packet was to include a projected racing budget for 2003. We figured in as much as we could... entry fees (15 weekends + 5 team challenges), gas (bikes and trucks), food (basically - water), and hotel (when not racing at BHF.) We included 2 BIG crashes per person (at $2k each, might be a little too inflated) plus $1k/person for general bike maintenance (chain/sprockets, oil, smaller crashes, etc.) We did NOT include any costs incurred in 2002 or before (bike, leathers, etc.)

The results made us both sick to our stomachs. We're halfway to the six-figure mark, just for the two of us. :E

I think I'm going to give up racing, and take up crack. It's probably just as fun, and probably cheaper!

At least now I know how my CC bill got so high, after running only 3 weekends this year (more like 2, first weekend only had 1 race...)

Don't start racing folks - it's a dangerously expensive hobby!!! I'm already wandering around the house, trying to figure out what I can hock to get some cash together....

Providing I don't break anything when we go to Putnam, I will have spent a little over $10,000. And thanks to John's abilities, I've come off of my crashes very cheaply.

I'm planning on spending around $12,000 next year.

Yep, it would have been cheaper to become a crackhead - but this is the most fun I've ever had.

Well you can only fairly count the trackday fees, hotels, skins, trailer, and gas. So about $3800...plus I like to do things right and spare no expense. The rest are mods and gear I would have bought anyway.

All you would need Tony are:
Used Leathers $300
Boots $100
Gloves $100
Track fees per day $150
Set of balls $
Permission from wife $
to use her bike

At the last CCS weekend at BHF - they stopped yelling... and started fining! Jeff got nailed with a $100 fine for doing a wheelie. Oops.

My forecasts for next year, provided I stay on the 750, are as follows:

$4,050 - Entry fees (5 races per w/e)
$5,400 - Tires (1 set per w/e)
$300 - Fuel (for bike)
$5,000 - Maintenance (including crashes)
$675 - Fuel (truck to/from track) - my half of the 50/50 split with DanO
$1,500 - Hotel (not including BHF weekends) - my half of the 50/50 split with DanO
$2,040 - Food (meals while not at BHF, also includes water/snacks)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
$18,965

That number gets closer to $26,000 if I decide to trade the 750 for a 600, since I can enter 9 races a weekend instead of 5. I'll go through 2 sets of tires per weekend instead of one. That figure does NOT include any costs required to obtain a 600. None of this takes into consideration the various Rosno schools, or trackdays I plan to attend.

That's for damn sure, let's see. Just photos.

First day Jack was there $30
Day at putnam another photographer $15
Last trackday where jack got killer pics $75
New digital Camera so my wife can take pictures at the tracks Jack isn't at, and entertain herself $700

That's $820 just in pictures, but boy is it worth it especially now that I have kneedragging pictures on a Katana of all bike

Sorry Jim, you know I've been waiting to use that one on somebody! Anyone got Flash? I'd like to edit that a bit.

He's got a pic picked out, but that's as far as we've got. And no, no digitally enhanced.

BTW Jimbo, I still have that 30x40 sitting here if you want to see how it looks.

Hey Jim, don't feel bad, I paid @8,000 for the bike and then tore it down to the frame and put @4-5,000 into the set-up. Then, doing it as cheap as I could ( only one set of tires per weekend, using last weekends tires for practice) Spent @ 1,000 per weekend ( not including travel and hotel and food, and I already had my gear) racing 3 classes at the Wera Nationals. One blown motor and 2 crash repairs later, I never wanted to figure out exactly how much I spent, it would've made me cry. Without 4&6's help it wouldn't have been possible.
Best advice I could give is never go into major credit card debt from racing. If something happens, you could get into financial trouble for a long time( don't ask how I know). Yet I still do it, because I love it. Racers are a sick breed.
