Max Biaggi copped a total of $6000 in fines after final qualifying today at Assen. After running out of qualifying tire he toured through the last couple of minutes of the session and managed to get in Marco Melandri's way twice, once at the new chicane when Marco was on a fast lap and then while doing a practice start before the flag went out.

Marco had a few words with him on the slow down lap, Max had a few words back and waved an elbow towards Marco. Melandri stuck his knee in and Max nearly slipped off his bike. Back in parc ferme, Max's Uncle Valerio tried to
strangle Melandri.

Incidentally, Max had already been involved in a scary incident at the new chicane. On a fast lap, he saw the WCM of Battaini ahead of him, made a lunge to get to the corner before the slower bike, got in too hot, ran across the chicane, and took Battaini's front wheel away after rejoining the track.
Battaini was thrown off his bike and was actually clinging to the tail of Max's Honda for a couple of seconds.

Dude...he's a has-been. All I hear from him is whiney complaints of why he didn't win because something was 'wrong' on the bike. That podium in Italy was just fluke and he's back to running off the pace again.

We'll soon see another Repsol bike finishing on the podium consistantly in a couple years. 69

He bring attention to his sponsors, that's about it. That attention could be good or bad but it's still attention. He is an arrogant rider with an inconsistent/outdated style. He'll be off the Motogp grid soon, now that Honda has pledged to push younger riders instead of trying to teach old dogs new tricks. We would be seeing much of Biaggi next season, that is my great prediction

He has huge support in Italy. You see his fans all over the place with home made banners and flags. They are really rabid. Not as big a group as Rossi fans but still significant.

The Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme published the following press release after the incidents involving Max Biaggi in the Gauloises TT Assen qualifying practice :

- On Friday 24 June, during the MotoGP qualifying practice, Italian rider number 3 Massimiliano Biaggi rode in an irresponsible manner, causing danger to other riders, which is an infraction to article 1.21.2 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations. For this infraction, the Race Direction has decided to penalize the rider with a fine of USD 5000.

- During the same session, Massimiliano Biaggi made start practice on the track before the chequered flag (infraction to Art. 1.21.17). For this, the Race Direction has decided to inflict upon the rider a fine of USD 1000.

- After the practice session, Mr Valerio Biaggi, holder of the pass nr I-1485, grabbed the rider nr 33 Marco Melandri by the throat, resulting in scratches. According to Art. 3.3.1.2 (action prejudicial to the interests of the sport), the Race Direction has decided to withdraw the permanent pass of Mr Valerio Biaggi for the rest of the year.

No appeal has been lodged.
The decision of the Race Direction is final.

Baiggi is gay and can stay that way. Get off the track and let the real man play. Go Hayden, The Texan, 46, Sete and the rest of the boys.

Biaggi is an ass. He can't compete consistanlty with Vale, Sete, or any other of the top riders, so he acts like a baby.

The best quote about Biaggi was in the movie "Faster." It was from that British guy when asked about the Rossi/Biaggi rivalry. He said, "What rivalry? Biaggi never wins a race." Or something like that.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

There is ppv of the on track altercation at the official Moto GP website.
