I am bidiing on a set of race plastic on Ebay. it's a set a Beasley(sp?) slightly used for my YZF600. It says it's freshly painted with yammi blue upper and pearl white lower and tail. I emailed the guy to see what his reserve is (no answer yet) but so far I've bid $300. Should I just bite the bullet and purchase it for the $450 Buy iy now price? I'm thinking I should considering its a fairly good lokking set from the pictures and a new paint job.

link to set here

althought i know my wife would kill me to just go out and spend $450 without telling her. Let's see what around the house can I put up for sale on Ebay?

Re: opinion needed

Looks like $450 is a good deal to me. especially since they are painted.

There is 5 days left on the auction. No one wants to pay the 450 full price so most people will bid up till that time. I say wait it out a bit, if it looks like its going to bid over 450 then buy it. If it looks like it wont meet reserve let me know, i will help you bid it up to meet reserve right before the auction is over. You got all winter to source parts, look for good deals and never lose sleep over the ones you missed out on.

I hate ebay sometimes!

You want it, right? I haven't heard of Beasley, but it looks alright. A good paint job would probably cost $400, looks like the photos are taken in a spray booth.

You've already committed to $300 and haven't hit reserve. If you're willing to pay $450 I'd at least bid it up until you find it's reserve, then decide. If the reserve is $400, what the hell, pay the extra $50 and get it because you know some damn sniper (aka KIM ) is going to snatch it from you in the last 5 minutes.

I understand VCook's suggestion but on the other hand, if it's a good deal, buy it now and don't lose sleep over the few bucks you might have saved.

Sniper? Moi? Stone cold, perhaps...

Seriously... If it's worth $450 to you, buy it. Once the reserve is met (and the only way you'll determine that is by bidding until it's met), the option to 'BUY IT NOW' will disappear.

Otherwise, figure out the absolute maximum amount you are willing to pay... and wait it out. A LOT can happen in five days, and it only counts in the last 5 minutes.

Personally, if I wasn't willing to pay the "buy it now" price, I wouldn't even put in a bid until it was 5 minutes before closing.

I don't know much about ebay but this is a great price. You couldn't get them painted for $450. I know my Dad would charge around $1500 for a paint job.

Ok here's another question......should i keep my stock plastic just in case I want to sell the bike later? (It's is very good shape) that is a least 2-3 years away. or shoul;d i put it on Ebay because I pretty sure the stock plastic sales would cover the cost of the race plastic.

That's a tough won. If you could see into the future to know how bad your going to beat the snot out of this bike it would be easy. If you never wreck it very bad it would be worth putting the old plastics on and selling it as a streetbike. A couple of nice wrecks though you might as well keep the race plastics on and sell it as a trackbike.

Um... If I can make a few (several) extra (hundreds) of bucks by selling my nice, shiny, stock-appearing, "adult-driven" motorcycle (with a clean title), why would I want to advertise it as a ragged-out track whore?

Buy my 2000 TLR... Owned by a girl for one summer, ridden just a few sunny weekends a year! See it's even got a brand-new full Yosh system, a nice, polished frame and the stock bodywork doesn't have a mark on it!

Not that I would ever do this to someone I know...

Like Kim said, if you have a max bid that is less than the buy now, I would bid that and wait it out. If the buy now is less than your max then buy now. If your max is less than the reserve, screw it he can keep it. As far as selling of keeping the stock plastic. I'd say keep it, unless your not plannig on selling the bike for more than a track bike in the future. In that case, sell it and recoupe the cost of the new skins.

Ok Jack I'll put it in terms you guys from WI can understand.

Example #1:
Buy Now Price is $500

You are willing to spend no more than $400

You Bid $400 and wait and see. If you get it or not.

Example #2
Buy Now Price is $500

You are willing to spend $600

You obviously use the Buy Now

Example #3
If the Buy Now function is already gone.

Reverve is $600

Your willing to spend $500

Walk away.

Ok is that clear or do I need Pictures. Seems thats what your into anyway.

You guys...funny stuff.

Ok, Beasley Bodywork is owned by...Ben Beasley. Former bike racer from years ago. The stuff isn't as light as Sharkskinz, but it is just awesome in how he details it.

Ben still makes bodywork for bikes, but now he builds spec race cars, bodywork and all for rich doctors that rent a team for a weekend. I think his life is crazy now, but he's involved in racing.

Ok ...I bought the bullet....my Ebay sales made a good profit (enough to cover the bodywork, some new pegs, braided front brake lines, brake pads, and a good down payment on a new trailer!) Emailed him and found out his reserve is $400. Some minor stress crackes on the seat...and a few nicks here and there...nothing abnormal. What's my secret? Code 3 diecast fire trucks man!!!!!!! by them cheap...sell them high!!!! Rare FDNY Aerialscope ladder bought 4 of them 2 years ago for $59 a piece. Just sold 1 for $250. 4 x value in 2 years!!! Geez only 30 more fire trucks to sell
