Meadowdale Raceway

Found this on a USGS topographical map:

That was a 3/4 mile front straight, to give a sense of the scale. Check out the grading on the curves in back, especially the first hard right (north of the gravel pit). 80 foot rise in around 530 feet of track.

And it's all been gone for years, converted to a forest preserve.

First time a topographical map has made me drool and cry at the same time.

my car club (shelby dodge auto club) went out there a couple years ago, some of the stuff is still out there, a few turns, a tower, and a bridge. some people were trying to bring it back to its old glory days but i think one of the turns is gone to a developer.

a freind of mine had pictures, i will try and find them and post them up.

All those little black squares on the upper right would prevent a track from going up there. This is the one in the western burbs, right?

Wow, that was intresting, I had no idea that place ever exsisted. So, who would prefer BHF looked like this place does now, and that this place was still up and running?

In a few more years there will be enough trees grown close to the (former) track surface that the runoff will start looking like Blackhawk's does now.

This is up in Carpentersville, at Huntley Road and IL 31. Actually, this is an older version of the map (1972, I think). I have a digital copy of the 1992 version of the same map, which shows basically the same thing but with a little more detail (the pedestrian bridge is shown, as is the tower and some other odds and ends).

I think the entire track is a forest preserve now, which kills practically any chance of bringing it back, but it does leave the possibility of a CLSB field trip this summer.

I've mtn biked in there last year. A lot of the track is still there.

My dad, drove that track in a 60's vette back in the day. He said it was a fun track for it's time. Now he motors in an 2002 Z06 at Road america and Brainerd.

Yes it is Raceway Woods.
It will never come back, to close to roads and population.
I go there with my 5 year old and hike, some cool things to see. The track is overrun with plant life in most areas.
This track had to be very dangerous in the day, to many solid objects close to the track and very narrow.
Its great to go check it out, there are some old abandon cars, abandon bridge
